Black Diamond Momentum Climbing Shoe reviews and deals for sale

It’s hard to listen to your friends teaching you how to gym climb when your feet feel scrunched worse than a ballerina’s. Black Diamond’s Momentum Climbing Shoe balances comfort with performance so you can learn how to climb comfortably. Most climbing shoes opt for leather or synthetic leather uppers to keep durable throughout your rocky adventures. Black Diamond, on the other hand, made this shoe’s upper out of a unique knit that enhances breathability without hindering overall durability. This enhanced breathability also decreases the foul smells that standard leather climbing shoes excrete in your car, closet, or wherever you store your climbing shoes. Since this isn’t a leather or synthetic leather climbing shoe, the Momentum shouldn't stretch as much as usual climbing shoes, and if this is your first pair of climbing shoes, you might want to consider getting this pair in your street shoe size even though your friends are telling you to size down. The NeoFriction rubber sole is also unique in that it’s molded—as opposed to the usual cutting from one sheet of rubber—to the shoe in order to increase longevity and ensure traction on greasy, plastic footholds.

WAY too small

I read reviews saying they might be a little small, but WOW, mine were PAINFULLY small. Small to the point that I nearly cut them off of my feet because I litterally could not get out of them. Aside from the sizing, the rubber used just feels really cheap, but no other complaints.

Just ok

Got this as my first shoe based off of all the reviews saying they were great for beginners but now I'm wishing I would have just gone into a store, talked to a pro, and tried on a bunch of different options to find the right one. These are relatively comfortable but the "mesh" doesn't breath or move like it looks. My other qualm is when tightened down the front strap creates a read more ripple/fold in the shoe that caused the top of my toes to blister after 1 session. Coming back to write this review I now see others complaining of the rubber falling apart after a few months. I haven't had them long enough to see that yet but I suspect I'll be in the market for new shoes before I even get a year of use out of these. Overall they look nice and get the job done but could use a lot of improvement.

New to climbing

I am liking these shoes! I got them fit so my toes just touch the tip of the shoe. They are comfortable and I like the Velcro straps for getting a tighter fit when I want it.

Toes started cracking after 2-3 months

I got these shoes twice and twice the toes began to fall apart after just two or three months or use. I got them a second time after they busted the first time, thinking it was just that pair but it seems like it's all of them. Also doesn't breathe like it claims, they still get very smelly. Wouldn't recommend.

Intro Climbing Shoes

These are very very comfortable - which is great for getting into climbing but after you're getting into the swing of things, you'll quickly want to upgrade to something with a bit more grip and feel of the wall. I like these a lot - but definitely looking for something with a bit more substance to progress on the wall. Bonus points for the sleek style!

Great for a Starter

Like others have said this runs small. I am a 10 1/2 in shoe and when I slipped on an 11 it felt like I was stepping into a solid and comfortable pair of climbing shoes. As someone who is terrified of climbing but wants to get comfortable with it and not worry about what is on my feet. I highly recommend this shoe.

Rubber soles ripped after 90 days of use

Rubber ripped on sole in 90 days of use and not covered under warranty. Would recommend BD hardware but not their shoes, pay a little extra for brand known for their climbing shoes like La Sportiva.

Good starter shoe

Was told that these would be good for beginners. I haven’t been disappointed at all with them. Plus with the Velcro it makes it easy to take them off and put them back on.

Good Shoe for Beginning

This shoe is a great shoe for anyone looking to get into climbing. The Velcro is nice for intermittent removal in between climbs. The shoe is relatively comfortable. Would recommend to anyone looking to dabble in some climbing.

NIce Beginner Shoe

These do run small. I wear an 11/11.5 in normal shoes and the 12's in these fit pretty tight. Liked the way the performed, but had an issue with the front strap causing the top of the shoe to fold over

Great Starting Shoe

I've used a few different shoes to start indoor climbing, and this one has been my favorite. As a beginner, It is a great feel on the foot compared to a more agressive shoe. I've only done indoor, but would definitely recommend this shoe if it's your 1st year climbing.

Runs Small Size Up

This is a great climbing shoe if you need something simple to start out with and you have a narrower foot, especially in the forefoot (toes). I found the midfoot and the heel cup to be a better design than other brands in this category and they are generally comfortable enough to hang out in to keep your momentum going. I have never been able to take off a climbing shoe faster than read more i can take these off. Black Diamonds look so stylish compared to other shoes that its defiantly my favorite aspect of this shoe.

A great Beginner

This is one of the best beginner neutral shoes. It didn't work for me on long climbs due to my high volume foot, but they break in well and the velcro is a nicer feater if you're pumped out but trying to get the shoes off!

Great beginner shoes run small...

These are great to start your climbing adventures with, they do however run small. My husband usually wears a size 10.5 and had to size up one full size to make these work for him. They still fit tight but that is normal with climbing shoes.

Love them!

So, Im a little new to climbing. I understand you want your shoes tight, even smaller than normal, toes a little scrunched but these shoes I feel are smaller than normal already. I normally wear a 12 in shoes so I was thinking about doing an 11.5. Well after trying them on (couldn't get my foot in) I ended up buying 12.5 and my toes are still pretty smooshed (which I imagine is read more the right amount of smooshing). Just a heads up. Other than getting the size correct I love these shoes. Easy on, east off when Im at the gym. Very light and have a ton of grip! Exactly what I was looking for!

Comfortable and fits Great

Though I love climbing I always hated how rock climbing shoes fit due to the fact that they would always pinch my skin on my heel or toes. These shoes eliminate both problems as well as give me a good climb.

Great beginner/intermediate shoe

I'm a 9.5/42.5 in La Sportiva and a 9 in evolv and the 9.5s fit me perfectly here. I usually prefer lace ups because it allows more adjustability and forgiveness for weirder feet but I'm happy here. The rubber grips super well indoors (haven't tried them elsewhere), they breathe well, and are comfortable! They perform admirably on more technical climbs as well. They don't have read more much of an edge so not that aggressive.

Shoes You Always Wanted

Such a great comfortable pair of shoes, yet you're getting a whole lot of response back. They are true to size; I had tried a half size lower and was just way too tight. I love how easy it is to slip in and out of these, and "they got the Velcro". I am enjoying these as a gym shoe for the convenience and comfort, been hesitant about taking these on hard climbs outside. Of course read more these are great if you're hanging around a crag with all your buddies, but nothing for those hard routes you're looking to flash. Solid shoe all around!
