Black Diamond Couloir Harness reviews and deals for sale

There are plenty of chutes worth shooting if you can rappel into them, and Black Diamond's Couloir Harness helps you do just that without weighing you down. This harness weighs less than half a pound and packs down to the size of an orange for compact storage. Black Diamond's Fusion Comfort construction includes a soft and stretchy laminate that covers thin EVA padding and triple-weave webbing that ensures long-lasting durability. The waist's self-locking Speed Buckle stays secure, and the leg loops unclip so you can put the harness on with skis or crampons on. There are four Ice Clipper slots on each leg loop so they don't bang against each other.

BD Couloir Harness

The plastic buckles are too weak to hold my body weight (I weigh less than 70 kilos!). I used this for a top rope harness once and the leg strap broke, I replaced it to give it another shot because I liked the features it offered for the mountains, only for the new harness to break in the same spot during an abseil. I don't understand the logic of "it's only made for mountaineering" read more when it can't handle a basic abseil, much less a 5 meter fall into a crevasse or a tricky entry abseil into a couloir. The only use I see for this harness is to dangle your shiny gear off while you pose for pictures during your "ski-mountaineering mission" 30 minutes out of bounds at your local ski resort. Or maybe as a piece of lingerie to gift to a special someone...

Forget it's there... until you need it

Has just enough features that it's not terrible to use it when you need it, but still small enough to go into the pack "just in case".

Great Mountaineering Harness

I bought this harness specifically for ski mountaineering. I found it lightweight, easily pack-able, and reliable. A bonus over a typical climbing harness is that the leg loops unbuckle allowing you to put on crampons or easily put the harness on over ski clothes.

Leg straps come undone

Kind sketchy, a little jengis. I tried using this harness for top-rope climbing and it doesn’t hold up even on small falls. Sucks getting to the top of a climb and your leg straps come unbuckled. This harness would never be able to handle a big whipper. Repelling on it is fine if that is all you are doing.

Lightweight and packable

As others have been saying, the Couloir Harness is designed with ski mountaineering in mind and therefore it is very lightweight and packs down really small in an included storage sack. I like that the leg loop straps can be easily disconnected so you can slip it on over your boots and crampons easily. As you can see there's really no padding which is why it isn't designed for read more summer or gym use, but when you are out in the elements in layers and ski pants then the harness doesn't bother you at all. The best harness for ski/splitboard mountaineering!

Awesome moutaineering harness

great harness when weight and compression are crusial! perfect for glacier travel, general mountaineering and alpine skiing. I bought a bunch for clients to use and had great success. Highly recommended.

Great Mountaineering Harness

Great, lightweight, alpine/glacier harness. This harness is surprisingly comfortable on rappels. It’s lightweight, packs super tiny, and is an ease to get on while wearing crampons. Really like the placement of the two ice clipper slots. I can use the front one if wearing a pack or the back if I’m not. Both are in good places. Only con is the gear loops. Even on a minimalist read more harness like this, I need to be able to access the gear loops and clip them one handed. Even when just traveling a glacier, you’ll have something on those loops and they need to stand out just a little to make clipping easier.

Great Mountaineering Harness

This is what you want! Make sure this is not for the climbing gym though. For mountaineering my dad loves it, the big size fits him well. It is light and ergonomic.

Perfect...

...for mountaineering, not the climbing gym. Best light weight harness for the Alpinist. Packs well and performs even better. Great for tours in the backcountry and the volcano climbs of the Pacific North West. Highly recommend!

Great mountaineering harness

Super light, compact and still has some padding. I've read a lot of complaints about the buckle being small- I don't have a problem with it. It's a speed buckle, which is nice (no double-back), and I like the fact that it has a lower profile than a "normal" climbing harness buckle. Everything sucks with gloves on, but I don't expect to be adjusting this that often. Belay loop construction read more is better than older Bod-style tie-in (I think at least) and the ice screw slots along with gear loops are a nice touch.

Failure on first use

I questioned the integrity of this harness as soon as I got it, but sure enough, I used this harness one time for snowkiting and the leg buckle snapped within 3 minutes, under a fairly gentle pull and I'd imagine a lot less shock than you'd get in a fall. Super sketchy. If the harness can't handle being pulled along in light winds on a frozen lake, I wouldn't trust it in the mountains read more much more than the belt on my pants. I understand that I wasn't using it for it's intended use, but a harness shouldn't just break the first time you put it under any sort of load.

For Mountaineering Only

Best harness for mountaineering I have ever purchase. Very lightweight, easy access to your zipper when needed for peeing, just unbuckle the left side or the right up on your convenience and the harness will shift to do your thing. SUPPER cool looking. Again this harness is for mountaineering only if you want to use it for anything else, then this harness is not design for rock read more climbing or whatever. Ok The buckle if it was just slightly bigger then will be just perfect however since you are adjusting that once in generally on the binging of the trip is not big of deal. I give 5 star to this harness.

Couloir Harness

I will start by saying this ; The harness is for Mountaineering ONLY. So if you not familiar with then I will recommend to do some research. The reason I make this comment is base on what other people are complaining about the harness. If you by this harness for rock climbing or any another activity you gone realize that is not design for that. The product quality is outstanding, read more another fact on to this one person was complaining was the difficulty of peeing with the harness one. Absolutely not a thru statement, the harness has quick release buckle for the right or for the left leg whatever is convenient for you.

Perfect For Splitboard Mountaineering

This harness is extremely light and pack-able. I would recommend looking at the leg loop buckles for early wear and tear. I had to send mine back under warrenty but the new one seems great. If your on the fence about size, id size up.
