Black Diamond 9.9 Rope reviews and deals for sale

The 9.9 Rope is Black Diamond's thickest and most durable climbing rope, and it's still versatile for virtually any style of climb. This rope balances the burliness required for big- wall projects with the beginner-friendly handling that new climbers need at the gym. Its Endurance rope boasts hardcore durability against rocky edges, and there's a half mark for easily identifying the rope's center for rigging rappels.

Wouldn't recommend it at all

I barely used this rope 3 times, and on the 3rd use it started to get undone on one of the ends of the rope, it was used in a very controlled environment, shouldn't have happened at all. I have already contacted Back country warranty department hoping they can resolve this. I have owned a mammut rope for a long time (6 years+) and nothing like this ever happened, don't know if this read more rope is just extremely sensitive or its just for indoor use, but would recommend for rock climbing, don't want to know what could happen after a time of use.

Black Diamond 9.9 Rope

My regular climbing partner purchased this as his first rope early this season. With the snow starting to fall now, it has almost survived the rock season. The price point is certainly appreciable to entry level climbers and it’s thick diameter hinted at durability. After seemingly countless hours spent either on the sharp end or at the belay, we’ve certainly put some read more vertical feet on ol’ blue. I must say that, after various deep abrasions and a core shot that cost us 5 meters of rope, the sheath durability was disappointing when compared to similarly priced options (see Mammut Eternity Protect). A great budget gym rope, but probably not your best bet for extensive outdoor use.

Great Rope!

The Black Diamond 9.9 rope has been great so far. I've used it in the gym and outside and have been very satisfied with it. It's thick, easy to hold for beginners and feels very durable. I expect to get a lot of use out of this rope.

Not as durable as other brands

I've been using the 70meter rope for 8 or 9 months now, mostly at the Red river gorge. I've already had to cut about 6 feet off of one end due to one large bulge and several spots on the sheath that were heavily frayed. The Sterling Velocity that this rope replaced held up much better over a longer period of time doing the same kind of climbing. My Mammut also held up better. read more The BD did it's job of keeping me safe though, so there's that. I just wish the sheath were more durable.

Good to Go!

This rope is Good to Go! Took this dude out on a 5-day backwoods climbing trip to work on a proj in AR. This buddy handled 2 days of rain and sharp rocky tops, all while I was just chillin' out brushing/testing holds. Then 3 days of me and a few other climbers gang busting out new routes and finding the flows. I'd definitely get another one when that time comes, But its still got read more a lot of life to live! The size is perfect for a Petzel Grigri and makes for a solid brake on whips. Trusted this rope all day everyday.

Great first rope

This is the first rope I've ever owned and so far so good! I bought it to start lead climbing in the gym which I've been doing for about 4 months now. I really like the feel of the rope, tying knots in it is super easy too! I haven't taken it outdoors but for gym climbing, it's been fantastic

Good gym rope

I've been using this rope for a few months now in the gym, it's the perfect length. Taken 3 or 4 falls on it, nothing crazy still holding up.

Great Color

This rope is great for gym climbing. 9.9 m is just the right size, feels good to belay with, not too heavy and a great color. Opened it up, uncoiled it and after a few flakes, kinks were out and it was ready to hit the wall! I definitely recommend this rope!

Great every day rope

I have both the 40 m and 70 m version of this rope and I love them! The 40m is perfect for the gym, flows through gri-gris and ATCs with ease. After a couple months of heavy use and dragging this around the gym, it does get pretty dirty and the halfway marker has started to fade. Not gone yet, but definitely less noticeable. Right out of the packaging this rope is good to go, read more I did not have any coiling issues with it. I got the 70 m version for days at the crag for heavy top rope use or on routes I know I will be hanging a lot. No complaints yet!

Great rope - poor service

I ordered the rope a couple weeks ago and have climbed severally days with it in that time. The rope is great, maybe a bit too flexible which allows it kink at times, but great overall. The service was less than desirable however. I order it with free two day shipping and was told by the customer service rep that it would arrive in plenty of time for a trip to Yosemite valley. Well, read more it arrived six days later and didn’t make the trip. So, buy the rope, but make sure you don’t count on it arriving soon!

Favorite Indoor Rope

I ordered the 40m version of this rope for indoor gym use and it is the best one I have used in my opinion. I love the way it feeds easily through ATC's and for the feel of the rope. It is burly and durable, which will help it last a long time. It also has a very comfortable stretch so that provides a nice catch when taking a whipper. Great rope.

Great Gym Rope

I had been using my 70m in the gym for a while, and decided enough is enough. Great rope for the gym, beefy feeling rope, definitely not the most supple out of the bag but it breaks in well. Cant comment on catches, ive only whipped once on it and I outweigh my belayer by about 80lbs so every catch is a soft catch for me.

GYM RATS

For all the Gym Rats out there. I was originally using my 60m outdoor rope. It was my prized possession. I loved that thing. Using it in the gym was beating it up and I couldn't have that. This 9.9mm is perfect and at 40 meters is awesome for the gym. The quality is standard BD. It looks great with the piercing blue. Not that its important but it helps. The feel is top notch. I read more found on the first day I had not usual coiled up rope issues. I would buy the longer version if I didn't already have it.

POOR LONGEVITY

I have used this rope outdoors 2-3x per week for sport leads and some TR. After 3 months of use it feels nearly core shot along the entire length of rope (even the last 3 feet on each end where it is used strictly to tie-in). while the sheath is intact and has only minor fraying, the core is smushy and spongy along its entire length. this rope has seen no whippers, only minor read more falls. I am rather disappointed in the quality/longevity of this rope. I will recommend any other Black Diamond equipment all day, but stay away from this rope unless you are sticking to the gym, or plan to replace it every 3 months.

Burly Trad Rope

I bought this rope to use as I'm beginning to trad climb and haven't been disappointed. It's not as supple as other ropes I've used but handles well enough and the sheath is extra burly. The thickness and feel of the sheath is worth the other trade-offs IMO and I'd definitely buy it again. Being new to trad I know I've made mistakes that have put extra wear on this rope but it read more seems to be taking it like a champ and only has a little fuzz in a few areas after 4 months of solid use.
