Backcountry x G3 High Traction Splitboard Skin reviews and deals for sale
Much like mountain goats, Backcountry Gearheads like to spend as much time as possible on the top of, well, mountains. To help get us up the steep and icy skin tracks that'll take us there, we collaborated with G3 to create the Backcountry x G3 High Traction Splitboard Skins.
These high-traction skins serve up the billy goat-like grip desired for alpine ascents on two halves of a snowboard. This extra traction allows you to climb up steeper, more direct routes, even on hardpack snow. That way you're spending less time skinning and more time slashing powder, which is something we can all agree with. G3 added a self-aligning tip attachment that's low-profile and a twin-tip tail attachment for a secure, stay-put fit. Plus, the solvent-free adhesive—which G3 claims is the toughest on the market—won't pollute the snow or mess up your freshly waxed base.

November 12, 2020Good traction, bad glue
I thought I'd chime in, seeing a lot of similar problems. The skins have great traction that leads to fewer slip outs in steeper terrain. Unfortunately, I've had the same glue problems as the other poor reviews. Glue keeps sticking to my board, making the decent too slow on low-angle early season tours. I can't garauntee that I've treated the skins perfectly, but my voile skins… read more never did this in four or five years of use. I plan to try the parchment paper trick in hopes that I won't have to keep cleaning/waxing my board after every tour. I'll have to replace these skins if the parchement trick doesn't work. I should mention that stick to the board hasn't been an issue; I've never had snow build up between the skis and the skins.

April 14, 2020Work great-inexpensive
If you are just starting out splitboarding and trying to keep everything basic, even the cheap stuff is still really expensive. I'd recommend these for sure. They function perfectly and you don't have to drop a lot of money for them- they are basically nice G3 skins that just happen to have the backcountry goat on them. I saw some reviewers had issues where the glue didn't stick… read more well and snow got in between the skin and their board, but I can't guess why that would happen unless they weren't caring for them or storing them properly. I haven't had a single issue with these. The tool it comes with is nicer than most that come with skins to trim them and they are SUPER sticky- it's an ab workout to pull them apart. I use the 144-162cm with my 156 arbor swoon. If your skins' glue doesn't last long, you can get more glue, you don't have to buy brand new skins. Also- NEVER EVER leave your skins on your splitboard/skis between uses- that could easily explain why the glue doesn't last. You aren't worthy of having a split setup if you do that.

February 18, 2020DO NOT BUY
I had to warranty my first pair of these after total glue failure after less than a dozen tours. I was stoked to get a new pair (and thankful that BC would warranty them!) thinking that it was just a production issue but the second pair is also a total dud. The glue is garbage and if they get just a tiny bit wet and cold, they stop sticking, which allows more snow to pile in,… read more making the skin completely useless. I'll be returning these as well. For reference, my last pair of skins were from BD and they lasted for 4 seasons before I had to reglue them. My next purchase will certainly be from BD, not G3.

December 10, 2019Cheapest bag ever
Have not even used them yet but the first time opening the bag they came in the junk shoelace material they used in the drawstring got all frayed up. Glue seems super sticky and is suspect. Don't think I'd buy other backcountry branded stuff like their jackets until they get their QA sorted out.

April 21, 2019Glue Failed
After only 3 month of use, the glue began sticking to my board, causing me problems. Do not recommend.

March 26, 2019Very Grippy and Sticky
Provide lots of traction and the glue sticks well to your bases. My only word of advise would be to size down if you are between sizes or the tail clips may seem a little loose.

January 31, 2019Not the same as the G3 Splitboard Skins
I bought these sort-of by accident, thinking they were the "G3 Splitboard + Grip Climbing Skin". I have a set of the G3 + Glide skins and wanted something with more grip for those steep/ice routes. The top clips on these are not directional (ie, one clip on top and one on the inner edge) like the regular G3's, and the tail clips are a worse design. Get the G3 Splitboard +… read more Grip (or Glide) Climbing Skins instead.

January 11, 2019Easy to use, easy to fit.
Absolutely love how easy these are to fit to your splitboard. I have the 17-18 Rome Whiteroom in a 150 and they fit perfect. The After about a dozen tours the glue is still holding strong and they have maintained great traction. The self-aligning stainless steel hand tip connectors and the twin tail connectors make these easy to use and easy to manage in windy conditions. December 10, 2018Glue failed
Great traction, but only after 2 season the glue failed and started sticking to my board and savers. Always stored in a cool place of course, not sure what happened to them. Skin glue typically lasts much longer than this, very frustrated.

December 10, 2018Great Traction & Glide
I have owned these for over 2 years now and had to get them again for the new splitboard. The way the toe and tail clips are designed make them easy to put on, line up the skin with your ski, and take off. They are easy to prepare right out of the box as well. They come with a trimming tool and the tail clips are adjustable, so there is no need to fiddle with riveting, etc to… read more fit them to the length of your board. A few minutes and you are ready to roll! All of that ease combined with the great glide and traction make these my go to climbing skin, would highly recommend.

November 27, 2018Skin glue failure, ain't my fault
Glue is super tacky and was immediately suspicious. Started sticking to my base a little the first season and first skin this year it was messy. I did everything I could to prevent this. Always hung up to dry and stored in a cool place. Over the summer they where stored on the provided cheet sheets in my cool garage. My garage stays very cold all year around, It doesn't really… read more get that hot anyways in the PNW. I also felt the drag of the thick fibers of the high traction skins. My previous skins were the K2 skins for the Ultra dream which I believe where made by Pomoco. I loved the glide on those but had glue issues after a while. I put in for a warranty claim as they list a 1-year manufacture warranty. Hoping for a refund.
