Backcountry Slickrock Bike Short - Men's reviews and deals for sale

When we're riding technical lines in Moab or Sedona, we need a short that won't restrict movement and that can keep us comfortable through the tightest sections. The Slickrock Short are made from a stretchy synthetic blend, providing excellent freedom of movement so we can maneuver through the Notch or the line for a post-ride burger and shake. The synthetic fabric is durable, for that inevitable scrape against a rock, and dries quickly so you won't feel clammy or too chilled. Two zippered front pockets stow anything you need within arm's reach and don't want tucked away in a pack, while the laser-cut vents help dump heat on the climbs.

Moderate Quality, Tight Fit

Shorts fit a little tighter than expected, but flex well and still work. I dig the color - got the peppercorn. Upon first wear the top waist snap button broke. That's fine as a budget short option - I bought them on a great sale but they are not worth full price. It seems some other folks had this issue too - I will be pursuing a return. I am excited to see Backcountry branding read more their own gear, but unfortunately I don't think they are of the highest quality.

New Favorite Riding Short!

I absolutely love these riding shorts! They are stretchy, breathable, and I hardly even notice they are there. Zippered pockets accommodate a phone if needed. The peppercorn color is also super unique and looks great. Medium seems to fit me quite well at a 32 inch waist. Personally I would want just a bit more length, but it is definitely not a deal breaker.

Great shorts...BUT...

These shorts are great in aesthetics, pocket placement, comfort level, and they accommodate a chamois pretty perfectly. However, I wore my first pair for just three rides and put them through the washer twice; after the second wash, one of the two snap buttons fell out of the fabric which had stretched to not allow it back in. "Whatever," I said, "Backcountry is pretty great about read more this stuff." And Backcountry was great. They sent me a new pair before even receiving the old ones. The whole process took maybe an hour of customer service time (it's Covid so lots of customers and few workers...I get it) and a couple days to get my new pair. This pair lasted two washes as well and one of the buttons tore through the fabric again. If Backcountry can fix this flaw, I'll have no doubt these shorts will be great. And fortunately there are two snap buttons at the waist line so losing one isn't the end of the shorts. But I think I'm going to ask for a refund, since I've only got two more wash cycles left on these nearly brand-new shorts. Edit: Had to ask for a refund on the second pair. Backcountry was great about it and sent me another item of my choosing. It's just sad that these suffer from such a design flaw.

MTB short will NOT stay in place

Have been a huge fan of products made by BC, but this short really has been a disappointment. Simply put: I have never owned a mtb short with no elastic band nor ways to use a waist belt. Unless you have a perfect M-sized waist, this short will NOT stay in place.

Nice Shorts

I got the medium size and the fit is slim but not too tight. If you are a 31 or 32 waist I'd suggest medium. The shorts are breathable and the fabric is stretchy which is nice when riding. The zippered pockets are good as well. The only thing missing is an adjustment or tie in. Otherwise really good biking shorts.

Awesome Shorts Lacking Adjustable Waist

There is so much that was done perfectly with these shorts. The peppercorn color is great, the fabric is great, venting holes are great, pockets are great. That said, I ended up between a medium and large, so without waist adjustments or belt loops its been tough to make them a go-to short. For those who fit into one of the sizes a bit better, I can see these being your favorite read more shorts.

Good shorts - adjustment would be nice

Love these shorts. Slim, stretchy, pockets big enough to hold a phone, although slim cut makes having bulky objects in the pockets a little annoying. I tried on the medium and small, to my surprise the small fit my waist the best. With no adjustment I wanted to make sure it was a tight fit. 30" waist and feels good.

Lightweight, stretchy, and a slim fit.

I’m a 33 waist and am always in between sizes. Sometimes a 32 sometimes a 34. These seem more like a 32 to me. They are slimmer than the other shorts I’ve had which took a bit of getting used to but ultimately I like them. They don’t get caught on your seat at the crotch as much as others I have which is a big plus for mtb. Super comfy and I do really like the stretch they read more have. If you're a true 34 they may be a bit tight. If you’re a 32 they will be spot on.

3.5 stars

32" waist. I have these and the Empire's in a medium. Key differences I noticed vs the Empire: Shorter inseam: maybe 0.5" Lighter fabric: It could be because of fewer pockets, no waist adjustment, etc. The fabric also feels slipperier and I occasionally get the sliding on the saddle sensation. No waist adjustment: They don't fall down, but I would prefer a trimmer waist. I don't read more want to size down to a small because I like how the thighs fit. I'm in between sizes based on their chart, so not a defect. I would love to see these with a trimmer waist paired with some elastic on the sides. My favorite MTB shorts right now are the Fox Flexair Vent, but I'm considering a pair of Stio OPR's since they have some elastic on the waist.

Great all around short

I really like that these shorts are lightweight and very breathable. The lightweight, stretch fabric makes them very comfortable and they fit well. The zippered pockets keep my phone secure and in place and out of the way. The fit is trimmer than most MTB shorts, but not tight or too slim. I love this as I find most MTB shorts to be too baggy and long. These pair well with the covert read more liner short. I use these shorts for all types of riding from technical MTB to gravel grinding. These would be perfect with the addition of a waist adjustment for a fully customizable fit.

Just get the Empire shorts.

I was hoping these shorts were similar to the Empire shorts but with a lighter weight fabric. I also really dig the Peppercorn color. I am happy to report that they do share the same fit and finish, and I'm very happy that the two hand pockets have zippers. The lack of any waist adjustment, though, is a no-go. They don't even have belt loops. Furthermore, the fabric feels the same read more to me as the Empires. I see no reason to get these over the Empires aside from the Peppercorn color option.

Breathable and lightweight but size down

The shorts were comfortable and plenty breathable but they run a little big in the waist and don't have any adjustment options. As long as you order a size smaller than you would expect, you should be fine (I wore mediums and have a 32 inch waist). Other than that, they were definitely durable and and got the job done.

What is the inseam length on these? It's kinda hard to tell based on the pictures. Thanks
