Backcountry Pentapitch Hooded Pullover - Men's reviews and deals for sale

Pentapitch is a multi-pitch climb in Little Cottonwood Canyon in our home region of Northern Utah, and it stays in the sun most of the day. Instead of applying sunscreen at each anchor, the Backcountry Men's Pentapitch Pullover Hoodie shields your skin from the sun's harsh sunlight. Its light fabric feels great in warmer weather, and it has a four-way stretch for full mobility on the mountain. The hood keeps rays from burning the back of your neck while you belay, and the 1/4-zip front adds ventilation when you get too warm. An adjustable waist helps keep this hoodie under your harness while you climb.

Pentapitch Hoodie

As a pretty slender guy, (6’0” 160 lbs) I found this hoodie to be the perfect slim fit. The material is stretchy and great for an active day or hiking or even in the gym. It’s lightweight and breathable, as well.

Excellent cool weather shirt

This shirt is an excellent piece. It's become my go to for anything outdoors between 40-65 in sun or even a bit hotter on a cloudy day. Over a 2 week trip to Jackson this fall I wore it almost every day all day. It regulates heat well and keep the sun off comfortably. It also cut a little bit of the breeze too. I just wore it over a t-shirt and never required a thicker layer while read more moving even when in very windy and cool conditions up in the Tetons. Since then I've worn it while running but its more of a 25-50 degree piece with really high output activities.

Great Layer

This hoodie is a great addition to any climbers closet. It's warm but light enough and breathable that you don't bake instantly in the sun. It's my go-to for cool days or mornings at the crag or on the wall. 10/10 would recommend!

Tiny, tiny, tiny...

I wear an XXL in everything so I figured this would fit. Its a shame these are made so small, since I really liked the shirt. I would say that the XXL is comparable to a LG in just about every other brand. I couldn't even try it on, it is so small.

Perfect Layer

I believe this is the perfect layer for almost everything. Nice and warm when you need it to be, not so hot you have to take if off instantly when the sun comes out, and it's super comfortable and stretchy so I never want to take it off anyway. It moves nicely and is durable so climbing with it is great, and it's warm so when I'm at the crag just hanging out it stays on! The kangaroo read more pouch adds a layer of comfort that other layers don't have, and the zip allows for more temperature control if it does get warmer or the wind picks up. I also appreciate a hood that can go under a helmet to keep me warm while sending in early or late seasons.

Mid-layer or Summer Sun Protector

This pullover works great as a fall/winter layer, even though it's designed to be a sun protecting pullover for the summer. To me, the fit is slim in all the right places, the sleeves are the right length, the option to cinch the bottom tighter is clutch, and the style make this a knockout. I get nervous it might be too warm for hot and direct conditions of a Utah summer, but haven't read more tried it yet and cannot be sure. Based on the reviews below, I don't think I will need to worry too much.

Swiss Army Layer

Use it anywhere and everywhere. It's light enough to use as a summer jacket but robust enough to layer for winter. The fit is great, tight, but where you want in a pull over like this. Would recommend for anyone who wants a do it all layer with top notch quality.

Love this jacket

This is one of the nicest thin layers I've ever worn. It's super comfy, my girlfriend keeps stealing it from me because of how soft it is. I've taken this on several trips hiking, climbing, camping, etc, and it has not disappointed me yet. It's stretchy and movable and it breathes really well. For how thin it is, it's also really warm. I was hiking in temperatures around the low read more 30's and high 20's with this as a base and a thin insulated layer on top of that and it was actually keeping me warm enough. This jacket is also pretty durable, I've taken through the wringer and it's still holding strong and hasn't ripped or torn on me yet, I believe it'll last a long time.

Very Impressive

I didn't expect a lot from the new Backcountry brand but was incredibly impressed by this piece. I wore it 3 days straight on a bikepacking trip and it was the perfect weight and pretty close to the perfect cut to keep me comfortable. It's fairly thin so I found it shed heat pretty well when I got moving but still cut the wind a bit when standing around . The hood was well cut to read more fit under a helmet if needed and the neck zip was just the right length. Fit is trim but not at all constricting with a good amount of stretch. For my long arms the sleeves were a little short when stretched out on a bike but anywhere else they were just fine. The bit of elastic in the cuffs kept them in place when I pushed them up my arms. Torso length was just right where it didn't pull up in back when I was pedaling. The odor fighting treatment did seem to work and the material seems like it's going to stand up to a lot of abuse. I'd love to see a darker color to hide dirt but the Sage is a good light gray that works.

SO versatile!

I bought this jacket in the mens style instead of the womens because I like the relaxed fit of the sleeves. I have worn this a ton as an evening layer in the summer, backpacking in Glacier National Park and on a week-long rafting trip on the Main Salmon. It does a good job of cutting the wind but is very breathable and lightweight. It also stays super warm when it gets wet!

Real Nice

I really like this hoodie as an in between when you don't really know how to manage your temperature. I wear it inside a lot if a building is a little chilly but doesn't warrant a jacket. It is great for summer mornings and evenings when there is just a slight chill in the air. In direct sunlight, it is great for keeping the sun off your body. If the amibient air temperature is read more much over 75 or 80 you will definitely be sweating in this, but I'd rather be a little warm and not have the sun hitting me than be in a t-shirt burning all day. I recently took this to the City of Rocks for some climbing in Idaho. Despite the summer solstice, daytime temps didn't breach 80. This was my favorite piece on that trip. I am 5'9" and a medium fits really well. The sleeves are a good length and the elastic cuffs hold well. The hood fits nicely under my C.A.M.P. climbing helmet, and the torso comes down far enough to stay under my harness without rising up. It also cinches around the torso which is nice if it's windy. The addition of thumb loops to this hoodie would make it epic. Also, the Paprika Red color looks a little aggressive in the product photos but is much more gentle in person. I like the color a lot and have received several compliments on it.

Where’s the Thumb Holes

Much to my wife’s chagrin, I primarily live in shirts like this. They look good, i can work in them and play around in them. They are versatile and functional. This piece hits all of those marks. Great fit and great look. But where, oh where are the thumb holes? Its slightly overpriced compared to competative pieces but overlooking the thumb hole feature is a bit of a mis step

Lightweight Hoodie or Heavier Sun Shirt

The Pentapitch is a versatile lightweight hoodie for any adventure. The 4-way stretch fabric makes it one of the most comfortable pieces in my closet. I’m taking it on a bike trip to Moab for those cold evenings when the sun drops and you need a little extra warmth.

Does this have thumbholes? Seems like it would be a perfect 10 if it had thumbholes!

Please have someone weigh this piece in a size large. This seems like the kind of hoody that 3 season ultralight hikers might like.
