Essential for the backcountry

These links are awesome. I use them whenever I am split boarding or snowmobiling in the backcountry. They are easy to use and work like a charm. I would highly recommend getting yourself a pair!

Wouldn't go out without it

New slimmer design and protected dial so the channels don't accidentally change on you is a nice addition. I use mine for skiing, sledding and even dirt biking in the summer. Great battery life and range. Communication is key for staying together and even more important in an emergency. Nice design to stick the radio in the pack and clip the handset on your chest strap for easy read more use with gloves on, much nicer than having to put one in your pocket. Works with other radios too even if your friends don't have one.

Simple and Easy

Communication is key in any relationship - my relatinship with the backcountry is no different. Which is why I upped my kit with the Backcounty Access BC Link 2.0. An updated version of the original Link we all love, I know I can count on the Link 2.0 Radio to be better, faster and stronger to keep up with me this touring season.

Great simple two way radio

I have used simple and inexpensive Motorola radios as well as high end digital radios that are overly complex. The BAC Link 2.0 is simple to use, has good range, is well designed, and has not let me know yet. I use it for backcountry trips and resort skiing. It also can work with your group that is using Motorola or other public channel radios. So you are not limited to communicating read more with other BAC radios. I highly recommend this product.

A nice to have one for backcountry ski

I bought 2 units and used them on a 4-day yurt backcountry skiing trip. We tested the range. It seems to be adequate, but received noises when we were ~0.5 mile apart. In my guess, the antenna might be too close to metallic objects inside the rucksack which resulted in the reduced range. I want to used it on ice climbing and other outdoor activities such as resort skiing, cycling, read more hiking, but it seems to be a little bulky and heavy side.

Good until it quit transmitting

Design improvements were good from the 1.0 that I used for a couple years. The speaker is louder, dials are in a better place, and the attachment to the radio is better. However, after a month of use I can hear people but now they can't hear me, no transmit. I emailed BCA warranty and now sales and have not heard anything back for weeks now so I am sitting on a useless radio that read more I bought directly from BCA. Also, battery life is better but there is no way to see an indicator that shows it is fully charged when you have it plugged in, so you are guessing when you turn on the radio and see full bars, that it is done charging. Also, the redesign on the mic is better against the elements, but I've seen it ice up like the old ones and not work to transmit so I think the frogzskin upgraded is needed on the new ones too.

Perfect for Ski Tours

We've used this a few times on ski tours. Great for pockets out of cell phone range, both in bounds and out of bounds. Great investment!

Terrible mic attachment

Bought two, screwed the mics on, both failed at the screw attaching the mic to the base unit immediately. The screw is held by a nut in the base unit of the radio. Both nuts were pulled from the base unit when tightened. I expected better quality by BCA.

Lifesaver

If you're venturing out in the backcountry, this radio is a must! It's easy to use, has good range and battery life. The ability to reach others in your group, or others in the area is paramount, and this makes it super easy. I bought this over the original version due to the supposedly extended range, and updated mic connection, but the original is still a great option at a cheaper read more price.

Way better than BC Link 1.0

After using the first generation of BC link for the past two seasons, this is a pleasant upgrade. The range of this radio is much better than the first one and stays on the same channel much better. I use this for snowmobiling and it works great for communicating with my party. Highly recommend for any backcountry user, regardless of how you choose to travel through it.

Great Improvement

I've used the original link for years. Longer battery life and stronger radio makes for a solid upgrade. I also was pumped to see that they updated the way the remote cord mounts to the radio. Seeing the review on here about it failing is a bummer I thought it seems like a good design, but hopefully that one was indeed just a lemon. Fortunately between the BCA warranty and Backcountry's read more customer service it's easy to remedy such things, but fingers crossed she holds strong. I also like the redesign of the remote, they added plastic around the dials to help you avoid accidental channel changing which did happen to me from time to time with the old one.

Might have got a lemon

Use this radio for 2 days. Day 3 I noticed it was not turning on and just left it in my pack assuming the battery was dead. Got back at the end of the day and found that the small plastic piece where it connects to the main body of the radio had broken and was only being held by the screw and was not making good contact. Poor design in my opinion as this radio was only in my pack read more and I would not have expected anything to break. I may try another one of these, if not, I will be picking up one of the originals.

Any further consensus on whether the two broken mic attachments were lemons or if this is a widespread issue? I guess if anyone out there has been using it extensively for a season or so with no issues it's probably OK?
