The best ski shell (for me)

I am a 6'1" 200 lb male who normally wears large in most brands but occasionally XL. I decided to upgrade from my Northface Thermoball Triclimate after a few seasons. I ordered the Sabre AR, Sabre LT, Rush, Beta SV, Alpha SV. My thoughts: Alpha SV - I liked the material the most and it fit my broad shoulders well but was too short. The pockets are climbing specific meaning read more no traditional hand pockets. I did not find this an issue because I ski with a backpack with large abdominal band and the hand pockets would be covered anyways, however I decided against this model due to the short length. If I would the same size but shorter, I would have chosen this. Beta SV - Also GoreTex Pro like Alpha SV... longer which I liked, normal hand pockets and one chest pocket which I liked. No powder skirt if you care about that (I use bibs so I don't really). I felt it was a little tight in the shoulders. Also, the material was more crinkly than the Alpha SV. For an all around jacket, it is great. I would probably consider the Beta AR with the drop hood in the future. Sabre AR - Baggy and heavier feeling that other jackets due to flannel liner (which felt nice). If I were heavier and needed more room around the middle, I would go for this. Sabre LT - Longer than the Sabre AR and lighter/thinner feeling, although more premium. I ranked this above the Sabre AR. Rush - Long, but not as long as Sabre LT. Just a shell, no flannel liner like the Sabre (which is fine with me). Goretex Pro. I don't care for the two tone colors, but that is personal preference. If the Rush came in solid colors, that would be my ideal. I kept the Rush in the black/maroon because it went with my black bibs. Happy with my purchase. If I were to rank for skiing: 1. Rush 2. Sabre LT 3. Sabre AR Best all around: 1. Beta SV 2. Alpha SV (unless short, then go for Alpha SV) Best mountaineering: Easy, get the Alpha SV. Also, all of the sleeves are long. You cinch down the sleeves. Not a big deal.

Arc'teryx Rush Jacket - Men's

Excellent ski jacket. Purchased the space chaos color which is a nice dark red color. Size large is a long slim fit great for my 6'3" thin 18 year old son. He will get many years out of this well-constructed jacket.

Rush Jacket

Bought this jacket for the 2019/2020 ski season. Absolutely bomb proof. From skiing in the trees (lots of abrasion opportunities) to massive powder days in Utah, this coat did everything. Add a layer with or without sleeves to extend the temp range.

Absolute the best shell ever!

This is the best shell I have ever owned and I have had several! Seems pricey but you will not need another for may years to come. Pockets, hood, fit, etc all spot on. I'm 6' 180 and a medium fits perfect. Bomb proof.

Warning. Long Arms!

I bought this jacket intending to keep it. It has great features. I will say that the reviews about the long arms are true. Just be aware they are longer than the other that I tried. Ended up getting a Sidewinder.

Great jacket

This jacket is bomb proof. I was in and out of tight trees with branches slapping me all over and have zero rips in the fabric. It has kept me dry and it blocks the wind like a boss. The hood on this thing fits perfectly over my helmet. It is definitely sized a little bigger. I usually wear a large in shell jackets because i hate the feeling of my shoulders or back feeling constricted. read more im 5'9 180 and i ordered the large. I could probably have sized down to a medium and been just fine but i have no regrets with the large. It is expensive but totally worth the investment.

Arms sized for HULK

I’m 6’3”, 225 pounds, pretty broad, bought XL. I can’t begin to understand the measurements on the arms of this Jacket. Look close at the pictures and you can see how BULKY the biceps and forearms are. Frankly the pictures are deceiving because the fabric on the forearms is folded to make it appear sleeker. I just don’t understand the thought process on this. It really read more bothers me. I can seriously fit my legs through the arms or both arms through one arm. Add to this that the sleeves run to my finger tips. I have a lot of arcteryx jackets - prolly why I’m soooo disappointed. Hate the fit.

Well made, but HUGE sizing

I'm 6' 1", 180 lbs, and wear a size 44L (monkey length arms) and I was swimming in the size large that I purchased from every point. My Arc'teryx Iser jacket, by comparison, fits perfectly.

Awesome Jacket!

I love this jacket. Perfect fit and a really nice jacket! I wore this all last winter season and loved it. I did everything from Backcountry skiing, to casually wearing to and from work during a heavy storm. The N80p-X GORE-TEX Pro 3L Gore Tex fabric will definitely keep you dry in all conditions. I'm 6' and a size Medium fit me perfect. Plenty of room to layer and not overly baggy read more when worn by itself. Highly recommended!

Top Quality

This is my second Rush jacket. When I first held up through the very heavy ski usage. Excellent customer service. My one comment is the jacket is slightly snug and it can be a challenge to layer for very cold weather.

Best shell I've owned

I've got in about 20 ski days this season with this jacket and slapped countless bushes and branches at medium/high speed, and this jacket still is as good as new. I'm actually slightly shocked that it has no wear and still performs flawlessly. It has never once come close to wetting out - I was bone dry after skiing in the rain for a few hours. The jacket also has all the features read more I need for resort skiing and nothing I don't. The chest pockets are especially nice - they are very roomy and durable.

Spacious Ski Wear

I got to take this out once about a week ago in some pretty inclement weather. Knowing Gore-Tex, I was dry all day, while the jacket did a great job blocking the wind. Pockets, are easily accessible, and the hood fits great over a helmet. Sizing is pretty spot on. I am 5'11" 170 lbs on a good day and I bought a medium. Has plenty of room inside the jacket for 1-2 good layers, read more and the upper portion of my bibs. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions jrepman@backcountry.com 801-523-4066

Great shell

Loved wearing this jacket on the mountain for some snowboarding! I ordered a medium and I'm 5'1", 150 pounds and the fit was perfect! The sleeves were a little long, but I liked the extra coverage. The gaiters were just the right size and at the end of the day, I was unzipping my jacket because I was so warm!

Great fit

I had the Arcteryx Theta AR and it had a really awkward fit around the shoulders so I resold it. I was using an old north face and finally gave in and bought my dream jacket. The Rush fits super well. I love the inside pocket setup paired with my BCA walkie-talkie. I wear it everyday here in Steamboat Springs Colorado riding the mountain. When I am ripping through Aspen Trees on read more a pow day or I am walking my dog I grab the Rush everytime. Adding wind protection and snow protection makes hanging out at the dog park bearable in the winter. I got the purple color and I get compliments on it all the time. An old lady told me not to wait until I am old to wear purple and I am taking her advice. The medium fits me perfectly and has plenty of room for a puffy jacket underneath. I would definitely size down on Arcteryx Jackets, unless you like having a huge jacket and want to look like you came out of an early 2000’s snowboard video.

The ultimate winter jacket

The Rush is the king of winter. With a mobile and comfortable gore-tex pro material. Bomber wind proof abilities and the promise of staying dry all day no matter the conditions. With a regular fit, so that you can layer well with the piece for those really cold days on the mountain. Water tight zips and a powder skirt makes it the needed jacket for all pursuits.

Great Jacket

I have this jacket and the sabre. Both are great jackets. This one is more go too as it is just a little bit slimmer fitting and I like the goretex on it better than the sabre. This is by far the best ski jacket i have ever owned!

Bomber!

I bought this jacket for my husband, and he is obsessed. It is his first Arc'teryx piece and now I think I have him hooked. Not only is it high quality, but it is super durable and bomb proof. In the deepest of pow days, he is staying dry thanks to Gore Tex Pro. He mainly uses this for backcountry touring, but also has used it casually or in rainy situations just knowing it will read more keep him dry and not make him feel muggy since he is able to dump heat out with the pit zips. It does fit true to size, but he loves his jackets a bit more loose fitting, so he can layer and whatnot, so he sized with an XL and it gives him the perfect fit for some swagger alone, or room to fit a few layers underneath, even a puffy on cold days! He is 5'9 and 180 for reference. I definitely recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a bombproof shell, it is the ultimate shell!

Nice Fit

Great jacket overall. I like that it is a somewhat trimmer fit (trimmer than the Sabre but not as trim as the Iser, which I tried first and found too tight in the lower torso). I wish there was a little more room at the top of the jacket when zipped around my chin, but otherwise great fit. I've skied Utah and Colorado with this jacket and it has yet to fail me. I layer it with read more the Arc'teryx Atom LT and a baselayer. I never got materially cold.

First Arcteryx

This was my first Arcteryx jacket. I'm 5'9 165lbs and bought the Small. It is a slim fitting jacket so if you like the baggy look i would definitely size up. Just got back from Squaw and Jackson Hole and couldn't be happier with the purchase. It is very high quality and gets the job done in very high wind and blizzard like conditions.
