Arc'teryx Proton LT Hooded Insulated Jacket - Women's reviews and deals for sale

Noticing that most "breathable" insulated jackets don't actually breathe that well during fast-paced activity, Arc'teryx designed the Proton LT Hooded Insulated Jacket for high-output alpine missions where thermoregulation is key to completing your lofty objectives. Instead of being merely breathable, the Proton LT's face fabric and insulation are air permeable, meaning the jacket allows rapid air exchange without relying on built-up pressure to expel condensed perspiration along the inside of the shell. Ultimately, this means you'll stay pleasantly dry from the inside-out. Additionally, Arc'teryx gave the Proton a climbing-specific cut with a slim fit that reduces needless bulk while articulated arms and gusseted elbows enhance mobility.

Not windproof

I really wanted to love this jacket. I never spend a lot of money on gear but I love Arc'teryx look and decided to give it a shot. Quite disappointed for the price. This jacket is either too warm or too drafty. I get cold in it on a windy day, and had to take it off on most hikes in the spring because it would not breath well and I would overheat on steep hikes. I give it a 3 read more but only for the looks and weight. As much as performance, my other cheaper jackets from other brands worked much better so far.

Great low bulk, warm jacket!

This jacket has been great for so much of the year! It is low bulk but seems to keep me so warm! As with any Arcteryx item, the quality is amazing and every feature is so thoughtfully put together. This has been a great jacket to wear in the fall on those chilly days. Or in the winter when I am just outside briefly and do not want to bulk up with a big outer jacket. I really like read more it because I get cold pretty often and this is a great, casual looking light jacket that keeps me way warmer than one would expect. I like my jackets to fit a bit snugger. Could have squeezed into the xs, but went with the small. Would size up if I wanted to heavily layer underneath.

She Didn't Want to give it up

My partner demo'ed this jacket for a couple weeks in late fall/early winter and she did not want to give it back at the end of the demo. She absolutely loved it and will likely end up being an Xmas present for her. The fit, breath-ability, and versatility were all dialed in. She loved it for chilly hikes/runs, for going to dinner and breweries, and even for wearing in our drafty read more house. We got drizzled on at the dog park in about 35F weather, and this thing kept her warm and cozy!

Jacket with Many Uses!

Whoa. This jacket really can do it all! First off, the sizing is really true to size. I am usually a Medium in most jackets and found that to be true here as well! I love how lightweight this jacket is, while still being pretty warm! In temperatures of 30 degrees F or warmer I would say it is good to go all on it's own, but below that I'd also add a shell! My favorite spec read more of the jacket is how quick drying and breathable it is! Getting a little sweaty while working hard is inevitable, but this jacket breathes so well and evaporates any moisture very quickly, especially for an insulating layer 10/10 would recommend!

Finally!

I've wanted this jacket for so long! Stoked to finally have it. My initial report is on the sizing. I am normally a medium and love that size for me, in this jacket. I'm 5'8 and about 130lbs with athletic shoulders. Full disclosure, I'm a wimp with the cold! It's been warm for sure and great as a stand alone in 40F+ temps, though. Under that, it gets a little chilly after about read more 20 minutes outside and needs a shell. I will update this review as I use it more. Can't wait for the winter season to fully drop!

Love the Brand

My first experience with Arc'teryx was on a cliff ledge at Indian Creek in October, it was cloudy and windy and I was super cold, when someone let me borrow their jacket while they climbed. I have never been so grateful. SO WARM. So I got Arc'teryx Proton LT Hooded Insulated Jacket - Women's XSmall. Its definitely the lighter version but equivalent to what I needed. Still warm for read more fall weather, stretchy, nice tight cuffs. Its slim on the body but not tight in the shoulders.I have a dog and I dragged it around in the desert so its pretty sturdy. Good for layers. Loved that it zipped to the nose and could pull the hood up. Pockets on the hip and a big phone size chest pocket, yeah! I'm petite and usually there is extra on the length and arms, it was perfect.

Do-it-all jacket!

I love this jacket! Arc'teryx has designed a wonderfully warm and functional jacket that you can take on all your adventures, no matter how big or small. This jacket is great for everyday use in brisk or chilly temps, but will keep you toasty in the mountains when you're exerting yourself too. The fit is very flattering and is trimmed to fit the body; great as a midlayer that insulates read more and breathes at the same time. If you're looking for a snugger fit , I would recommend sizing down. I'm usually a small but ended up getting an XS because I wanted to layer over top of it and was looking for a slimmer fit. I never over-heat in this jacket, but it keeps me warm in a wide range of temperatures. Great to take with you climbing, hiking, snowshoeing, or bopping around town... it will become your go-to choice year round, since it offers warmth and style, all in one. Can't recommend it enough!

Light and Warm

The proton LT model is an amazing jacket! It keeps you warm but breathes so you do not overheat when outdoors and hiking between the sun and shade. It is wonderfully packable and great as a mid-layer, as it is not waterproof. My only complaint about this is not only on this model but other Arcteryx items as well as the length of the arms, they are too long for me all around so read more the bunch up a bit at the ends. The fit of the jacket itself is spot on. I would definitely invest in one of these if you are into active pursuits!

Mountain Powerhouse!

The Proton LT is a really comfortable, warm, and breathable jacket meant for virtually any cold-weather mountain activity. I like to think of it as a warmer, more breathable, and more packable Atom LT. You still get the comfort and softness you love with the Atom, but both the interior lining and exterior fabric are both air-permeable. It also has strategically placed 80 and 60 read more grams of Coreloft Compact Insulation. It is durable enough to handle anything the backcountry can throw at it and because it is so breathable, it is incredibly versatile. The fit is trim, but true to size. Similar fit to the Atom line but slightly longer in the back. If you have any questions about this or any other Arc'teryx product, feel free to reach out to me directly at amcclary@backcountry.com

Proton - An Aerobic Atom

I own the Proton AR (not the LT). Like the other reviewer mentioned, the Proton seems very similar to the very popular Atom from Arc'teryx. However, after owning this jacket, there's a very distinctive purpose and use for it! USE: Boiling down to it, I work out in the Proton, and I lounge in my Atom. Any heavy aerobic activity outside like backcountry touring or snowshoeing, read more the Proton is my go-to insulating layer. It breathes significantly better, so I don't want to rip it off me like my Atom when earning turns. Because of that I find it's colder and noticeably lets in more air (to the equivalent of lounging around at home the Proton AR is as warm as my Atom LT). MATERIAL: The outer material is great and possibly more water resistant than the Atom. I wore it in a relatively wet snow storm and it shook off the snow well. I still carry a separate hardshell for strong wind/storms. CUT: Note, the cut is longer than the Atom, which depending on your build can make it seem cut narrower. DETAILS: The two chest pockets are great for storing items. SIZE: I wear a Small in nearly all items, and I wear a Small with the Proton.

Great All-around Mid Layer

If you are like me, you might be looking at this jacket and wondering what difference between this piece and the Atom LT jacket is, so from my experience thus far, here are a few items of note that might be helpful for comparison: - The Proton is more breathable, but I think the Atom might be a bit warmer. The breathability will be the biggest differentiating factor for this piece. read more - While the fits are supposedly the same or very similar, I prefer the Proton as the cut feels slightly longer and a little more tapered/feminine. The best way I can think of to describe the fabric of the Proton is that it is slightly more "porous" than that of the Atom. I can’t yet comment on the difference between the water resistant abilities but the Atom is better at blocking the wind. I also personally appreciate the extra pocket on the chest (which the Atom doesn’t have). I took the new Proton LT as the sole jacket on my recent trip to the Dolomites. It was much colder there than expected and found this jacket to be a great all-around piece, but because it is so breathable found it slightly less wind resistant. We did a hike to the North faces of Tre Cime di Lavaredo and saw varying conditions from light snow, to wind, and various elevation changes. Aside from wishing I had a hardshell for the more extreme wind and cold, it did a great job of regulating my temperature (particularly once I starting exerting myself) - I will be excited to see how it does this winter for SkiMo. As far as sizing is concerned, as with most all Arc'teryx articles, I sized up to a Medium.
