Decent not great

I wore this jacket twice yesterday, first in a light rain and later for 2.5 hours (under a Marmot rain shell) in moderately heavy rain. In light rain the coat had no problem. It shed the rain nicely. The poly / nylon / polyu outer fabric takes some getting used to IF you’re accustomed to nylon jackets as I am. Same with the fleece lining. The jacket can be a bit hard to get read more on over a heavier base layer, with the fleece lining. The hood is too big and needs a hat/ helmet to keep it out of your eyes. The side pockets are fleece-lined and feel nice. In moderately heavy rain, the jacket stayed dry under the rain shell even though the shell felt wet on the inside. Recommend. Edit: I wore the jacket again in fairly cold weather. Even with a medium weight fleece base layer, my arms felt cold at times. As noted, the jacket is hard to pull on with the fleece lining. The hood is stupidly big. Compared to Arc’Teryx nylon/down jackets of comparable (or less) price, i much prefer the nylon/down. Second edit; I wore the jacket again today in 43 degree weather over a heavyweight merino wool base. My arms were cold, the pockets are designed such that a cell phone could easily fall out, the sleeves look too tight on your arms, even if the mobility is good. The design of the front of the jacket is not particularly attractive for Arc’Teryx coats. Definitely not a cold weather coat no matter how much layering you try to fit under the rather tight body of the coat. I’m not a fan.

Great fit and classy look

I took this jacket out for a demo for a few weeks in late fall/ early winter, and it surely did the trick! It kept the wind from biting and the rain from dampening. The hood is a bit large if using it without a helmet but the zippers, pockets, and velcro are all impeccable.

Love it.

I had been watching this jacket for a while, and finally snagged it in sale. Now, having worn it for a while, I have to say that I would have paid full price for it. Fit is spot on - though not a lot of room for layering. The hood is awesome and would accommodate a helmet. The design and locations of the pockets is great. And the overall fit/feel makes me not want to take it read more off, which is okay since I’ve worn it from about 5 degrees up to 75 degrees. It’s so good I’m considering getting some Gamma pants.

Great Fall/Spring Jacket!

I own a few Arc'teryx products and this one might be my favorite. For me this is the best all around jacket for Fall and Spring weather. I recently wore this to a night Soccer game, where it was pretty cold, and thing was perfect for the occasion. I had a thin soccer jersey as an "baselayer" and even with some wind I was still warm thanks to the shell like exterior. I really like read more the fit of this, seems to fit similar to my Atom LT as far as cut and shape goes. I'd highly recommend this jacket for anyone looking for your next all around go to jacket.

The One Jacket To Rule Them All!!

This is not only the best climbing jacket I have used, but i can safely say it is the best all-around jacket on the market right now. While climbing in Idaho this fall my partner and I were hit with unpredictable low temps, wind. and rain and I was so grateful to have this jacket on my back not only on the wall but also around the morning fire! When the cloud cover moved in the read more low temps and wind would normally make climbing on the cold granite a nightmare, but in the act of climbing and belaying between pitches I felt protected from the wind/rain and was much warmer than I expected. The jacket has awesome compatibility with helmet and harness, and the flexible material of the softshell I never restricted my movement.. Best of all when it was cold in the morning and the wind was blowing unrelentingly I layered it over my down! (pictured below) Not only does it protect well it looks good too! I will be climbing in the MX all fall through rain and wind and snow, but I won't pack it away for the winter. This jacket is an amazing option for in and out of bounds skiing and snowboarding. With its protection from the elements, comfort, and warmth it is an amazing mid to outer layer option. If you are looking for one jacket that does it all each and every season of the year, that looks good and keeps you outside doing what you love. Then go with the Arc'teryx MX Gamma.

A phenomenal all-around jacket

This jacket was awesome. I love the Arc'teryx brand as a whole because their quality is so good. When looking at this jacket, I wondered if the pricepoint would be worth the quality that I got and the answer was absolutely yes. It can be really tricky to find a jacket that will do everything for you. I would definitely say this jacket fits the bill. It was heavy enough that I was read more able to wear it when the temperature got to freezing, I was still perfectly warm, and it was light enough that I could wear it at 60 degrees earlier that night and into the next morning without sweating to death. I have a fairly athletic build and this jacket fit me absolutely perfect. It looked better than any other jacket I've used in my life because of that. I did't feel like the fit was restricting for movement either which can sometimes happen when you get into those slimmer fits. The hood is great. I could have actually even worn it while biking in the very cold weather and it would have fit over my helmet. I could also wear this on a lighter skiing day without worry of getting too cold. If you're looking for a quality jacket you can wear every day with any outfit, this jacket will absolutely fit the ticket for you. And because it is such great quality, you can count on it lasting you through the ups and downs you might put it through.

Awesome shell for snowboarding!

This was a great jacket to take out on a ski weekend! Perfectly suited to layering underneath and great at keeping the elements and wind out! I loved all the convenient pockets and the chest pocket perfectly held a ski pass. Great quality from Arc'teryx as always!

Arc'teryx at it again!

Arc'teryx makes quality products that perform incredibly well and this jacket is no exception! It's a great lightweight softshell perfect for taking touring! Its breathable enough so you're not going to be losing more sweat than you should be, but still wind and water resistant! Applause to you Arc'teryx! I got this in a medium because Arc'teryx's stuff tends to run small in the read more torso, but have longer sleeves. The medium still gave me some room to grow, so a small would have fit me perfectly.

Style and Substance

One of the toastiest jackets I have had the pleasure of wearing, My friend Marie wore this for 2 winter weeks straight I'm fairly sure. An excellent softshell with killer style and thoughtful design. Pockets, lining, vents, and punching above its weight at 1.3 pounds. The fit is more athletic like all Arc'teryx gear so be aware of that. I'm giving it 4 stars for two reasons: $350 read more is quite an investment, even for a softshell as ingenious as this one. It's not quite warm enough for more frigid days and not quite breathable enough for serious activity. It can be dressed up or down of course!

Comfortable and Breathable

I took this jacket out on a demo for a couple weeks and really liked having it. I'm not normally a softshell kind of guy in the winter, but this held up nicely. The internal material is nice and soft. The outer shell doesn't make a bunch of noise when walking around. I never did get to take this out touring or skiing in the resort, but with my initial impressions on the jacket, read more I would definitely use this skiing and would perform really well in a drier climate. Just know, like most skiing jackets, the arms are a little long. The jacket has a very athletic fit. Look at the chest dimensions on the sizing chart for sizing assistance.

Took to Portland and it was perfect

I used this jacket on a trip i took to Portland for a wedding actually. Not your typical adventure but it was perfect nonetheless. I needed something that looked nice, kept me dry and warm. I loved having this jacket as i toured around rainy Portland. The hood was probably the best part! I have a pretty big beard and this hood covered my entire head, hat and fit my beard in it without read more squishing it or getting it caught in any zippers! The struggle is real. The water proofing was also incredible and kept me super dry as we walked though a few of Portland's amazing parks and hung out downtown. The only thing i didn't account for was the mesh lining in the pockets. When the pockets are opened, even with your hands in them, the air would get through very easily making it a little tough to stay warm. But that's my only complaint and I'm sure that feature would be amazing while hiking, touring or any other cardio activity where you body temperature fluctuates regularly.

Awesome!

I love this coat, the fit is is a little snug for my liking. if your going out in the cold in this better have good base layering going on, it would be a great mid layer itself. It killed it in the wind and the rain for me. Very dry, and blocked out the wind great!

the softshell every one needs

You are abandoned on a rainy island and get to have one thing....here you go. The Gamma MX hoody is breathable, wind resistant, and warm with a slight fleece lining inside. MX stands for mixed weather so you can guarantee it will handle all the conditions. I will be honest, I am not a softshell guy but this is just too hard to pass up once you try it on. Highly durable, and abrasion read more resistant while also not being a straight jacket like you find alot of softshells to be. The stretch capability allows your to be at your most mobile form or just out on the town in comfort. *edit* - this has fleece lining in the hand pockets as well and they are very spacious along with the chest pockets making it the ultimate layering option that you can store things in.

Best Mid Weight Shotshell

I've been beating on this for a number of years now. This is a go to for ski touring or warmer days at the resort and climbing. It also looks great around town. It works well with a light mid-layer and functions well itself as a mid-layer on variable days that turn cold. The patterning that Arc'teryx built into this is incredible. The shoulders are well cut for climbers and read more allow you to lift your arms without having your jacket pull way up to your mid-drift. Helmet compatibility is also top notch for both ski and climbing helmets. For a shoftshell jacket without Windstopper I'm always impressed by how much wind it keeps out and how well the fabric breathes. If you want top notch fit and fabric, you'll get it here.

a little dispointed

this one is made in vietnam, a little different from the one made in china, the not hoodied version i bought. the brand at the front chest is more shinny for the latter. their materials showed in the tag are different too. the collar is too wide to block strong wind, but the not hoodied one can.
