Versatile Climbing Pants

These are definitely my new favorite pants for alpine climbing and hiking. I wore these climbing up 9 pitches of super sharp and chossy limestone on Notch Peak, and I have zero holes or snags. Also, I got caught in a snow storm and spent 1.5 hours hiking down in these pants. While they did get wet from snow, they fully dried in 15 minutes. I have been super impressed with these read more pants, and they have far exceeded my expectations. I actually found the length of these pants to run on the shorter side. I wish they were a half inch longer for hiking, but I found the length perfect for rock climbing. You can easily cinch the ankles. I also love the integrated belt in these pants. My biggest issue with pants is that I have to size up so that pants can fit my thighs, but I end up with a waist that is too big. These pants did seem to stretch some over the course of the day that I climbed in them, but nothing too crazy. I definitely would not size down in these. I bought these in "redox" and the color is more of a rust color, which I really love. I was worried from the picture that it would be too much of a red/berry color. I wear these in the same size that I wear my gamma mx pants. If you're looking for a multi-use pair of pants that you can wear hiking, climbing, scrambling, or just hanging around camp, I would highly recommend these.

Great thus far

I recently bought these pants and really like them thus far. The fit is really comfortable and slim while still allowing for plenty of movement while snowshoing up mtns. I guess I am a little tall (just under 5' 7") but am very happy with the length. If they were any shorter they would be too short for me. Will update review after further use if I find any strong up or downsides.

Great pants but not the perfect pants

I bought these pants a few weeks ago for alpine climbing on both rock and ice. The material of the pants are great, they are light weight, and fit is great. However, they are too long and bunch up on the mountaineering boots .. which shouldnt be a problem but its not the slick good fit pant feel either that you would want during technical climbs. Although the material is great for read more weight and for summer alpine climbs, it is not tough enough to handle alpine rock.. I already have nicks in my pants from sharp rock edges during narrow chimney moves. The leg cinch system is not sufficient to substitute a gaiter when going over snow. I wish they had a lace buckle in the front like some of their hybrid pants for mens or allowed a bungee attachment to go under the boot. Overall, I would recommend the pants for hiking, but not good for mountaineering or alpine climbing.

great for ski mountaineering

I bought these for a few spring ski mountaineering trips and they were perfect. They fit great, and can accommodate my wider hip/butt and skier/thunder thighs. They are cut to provide mobility and the stretch in the fabric further helps this. The rise is slightly high for me, but it still worked great (I am also on the short end for wearing an XL). And the wide leg accommodates read more a ski boot no problem. As others have mentioned, I found them long, and just rolled them up a couple times. If I was really ounce coating I might get them tailored, but I'm not. My ski boots would generally keep the roll in place, but when I was hiking in regular boots I used the drawstring. The fabric is pretty light, which is great when you're skinning uphill in 70 degree heat or starting your hike close to sea-level in a temperate forest. The hip pockets are mesh lined, so you can further vent the pants by leaving those open. I noticed that water beaded up and rolled off them pretty easy, (in fact, it seemed an impressive amount of beading for a lightweight fabric that breathes so well) and dirt seems to come clean just as easy in the wash. For the alpine start, and a cloudy / windy summit, I was able to easily and comfortably wear a merino base layer underneath. The noise mentioned in a previous review is not something I ever noticed. Perhaps I was just so distracted by the task at hand, or had enough hats/helmets covering my ears, but either way I never noticed it.

Nice pant but too long

This pant has nice material and nice fit except it is too long. I would expect the length be shorter for XS.

Great LIGHT pant

These pants are definitely LT and are a little thinner than I perhaps expected but I'm happy about that because it means they'll even work in summer on cooler days at high elevations and such (or perhaps even in warmer days - I'll know more once summer rolls around). They stop wind really well, repel water effectively, stretch well providing flexibility of movement, are super read more comfy, and look good - what more can you really want? I ordered the same size as my ArcT rain pants in a moment of stupidity not thinking that I intentionally got those large to fit over other layers so I had to return my first pair. Backcountry was great with the return as always. These pants are tighter in the bum and looser in the legs - which provides good flexibility and a look that I like. I like the simple cinch cords at the bottom which are much more straightforward than other pants and seem less likely to break than those equipped with button-toggle type systems. There are photos of this cinch on the men's gamma lt page but I'll try to snap a photo to post it here too.

good pant, one exception

After reading the reviews this seemed like 'the pant' for everything! Unfortunately, I can't get past how 'loud' it is when moving around at all. It reminds me of the sound of wearing snowpants. Guess I'm pretty sensitive to this, but when I'm out in nature, I want to hear nature, not the constant sound of my crinkly slicky sounding pants. Otherwise, the fit, comfort and sizing read more was all awesome. But at this price point i need them to be 'perfect' in every way. :-) it just surprised me HOW loud they actually were.....not quite the quietness of a 'soft shell' I expect....

Over 100 miles

Hiking the Coast to Coast trail in England through 100 miles of mist, rain, wind and sun, rocky, muddy and moorland trails, these pants have really performed in all weather except long periods of torrential driving rain. Rain pants fit easily over the top. Attractive fit yet pockets roomy enough for map, phone, TP ETC. I am 137 lbs and 5'4". The size 8 fit well with enough read more room for thin base layer underneath if needed. I wish this pant came in a petite or short. The legs are long for me but if you cinch the bottom cords up tight they make a nice cuff without dragging on the ground. They wash easily and dry super fast. Love these pants!

Definitely recommend

I was looking for a comfortable (e.g. moves with me) lightweight pant for rock climbing and other mountain activities. These are great. My only constructive input is that the small should not be so long. I'm guessing it's about a 32" inseam. It should be more like 30". The draw strings in the pant legs do a good job and I will be keeping these and am actually considering read more a second pair.

Perfect

I wore them shortly after my purchase to a hiking trip in Shenandoah Park... they preformed amazing. breathable-&-warm: Even though it doesn't feel like they breathable when you feel the fabric, they were. Temperatures were constantly changing during our hike, and I always felt comfortable (I am usually very cold when doing nothing, but begin to sweat once my heart rate kicks read more up) I am 5'2 125 pounds- muscularly built with a but, and I got the small and they look and feel really good. the fit is loose enough for being comfortable, but slim and fitted enough to also be flattering. I highly recommend these

For Shizzle!

This mountaineer lady loves the feel of the nylon, spandex, and fortius for trekking, glasading, or simply meandering up the mountain. Arc'teryx Pants gave me more dexterity while stretching, doing high knees, jumps, and lunges.

Lightweight, versatile, well-tapered, well-constructed

I recently purchased this pair of softshell pants for a 1,000-mile-long thru-hike across the Alps from Italy to Monaco this summer. I have been recreating in the Wasatch in advance of my Alps adventure, and I continue to be impressed by the quality of construction (I wouldn't expect anything less from Arc'teryx) and the tapered female fit. Based on previous experience, softshell read more pants tend to be bulky and uncomfortable in action. The pants kept me toasty warm a few days ago when I woke up to howling winds at 12:30 a.m. in a parking lot on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to begin a 32-mile, 12-hour-long hiking adventure. I would definitely recommend sizing up a bit so that you can wear something like thermal underwear for added warmth. I am 5'9", 150 pounds, and the size large fits like a perfect glove with tights underneath.

Arc'teryx Gamma Softshell pants

Love these pants! I just wore these pants on a long trip through Asia and Bhutan, and they were perfect--good fit, light weight, water repellent, and they cleaned up with just a wet wipe at the end of the day. I love the 4 zippered pockets in front, and that the waist didn't stretch out as many soft shell pants do at the end of the trip. They were a bit too light for high altitude read more bad weather on their own, but with long underwear, they provided better protection. I wear a 4-6, and the Small fitted me perfectly. The only change I would make is in the ankle cuffing--when they are drawn up tight, the cords are easy to step on and trip. They need a little velcro attachment or something to keep them out of the way.

Great fit, very comfortable

I run between an 8 and 10 in most clothes, but find that medium Arc'teryx pants are form fitting without being uncomfortably tight. These pants feel great agains my skin and move well. I thought about skiing in them, but only on a warm day because they are so thin. But they will be great for hiking and alpine climbing. Always a great product from Arc'teryx.

Love the fit but inseam length wrong

I ordered the XS Tall per the sizing chart. The overall fit was excellent but the length per the chart should be 32 it wasn't. Length is 35. Overall quality of pant is nice. Fit is fitted not baggy. If they had an XS/R I would have exchanged for that size but alias these had to go back.
