The best mild weather pants

I normally don’t spend the time to write reviews but since Backcountry has been a huge help on getting me upgrade my hiking/camping why not... and this is not a review for backcountry I just like been their customer service.... anyway I bought this pair for hiking around the Oregon coast this summer. First pit of pant I truly love, I camped out for 3 night at strawberry mountain read more with temperatures 40-50F really stay warm and comfortable. Very breathable and comfortable definitely worth the price.

Finally a hiking pair that fits

Finally a pair of pants that doesn't fit like a sack and is stretchy enough to stay completely out of the way. I'm a very athletic 185 lbs and typically waists are far too large while the thighs are too tight. A medium in these pants fits perfectly in the waist, snug on the thighs and just loose enough the rest of the way down. Definitely nice enough looking for me to wear around read more town and stretchy enough even climbing in them works.

Excellent mild weather pants

Bought a pair for the late winter-early spring this year. Have worn them in cool, drizzly, conditions (40-50 F) while on extended walks. Very comfortable, breathable, yet resistant to drizzle droplets penetrating the fabric. With a light weight under layer, these pants would work well for outdoor hiking, snowshoeing, running activity at temps down to 25 F. I am very happy with the read more quality of workmanship, and appointments like the cinch-able cuffs, and low profile loop-and-hook belt buckle. Good value!

fits great, gonna use this for all purp

these pants fit great, im 5'11 - 175. athletic build, legs are athletic but not overly sized. they fit pretty well and also look trim. when traveling, i dislike packing jeans and other pants that are thicker / heavier. im glad to be able to just rock these for all purpose. I'm sure i can wear these out in the town, or in the mountains. great buy. Bought the size small. fits fantastic. read more

My size is a bit tricky with this brand

My normal pants are 34x32 and the Large on these were just too baggy/long. I exchanged for a Medium and they luckily work for me, but I have very little room for growth. I really like the look and feel of these pants, but one thing I found odd on both pairs I got was a small contrasting color stitch on the crotch area (picture added). It's not a huge deal, but something I noticed read more right away and thought was a stain at first. I wish they would have used the same color to blend with the pant material. Overall, I'm happy and look forward to wearing them out.

Excellent hiking trousers

Used these on a wide range a of trips from mountain to jungle treks. Have enough breathability and wind resistance to be comfortable in hot and cooler conditions. Nice fit and holding their shape, colour and stitching.

My go to hiking, backpacking/alpine pant

I have been wearing this style of Arc'Teryx pants since the early 2000's and currently own two pairs of the current version being made. I am stocky and wear the Large/Short size, which is a godsend as hemming technical pants is very expensive. I believe that these were made from Scholler fabric back in the day, which I feel performed better in terms of weather resistance and durability read more than the current fabric. However, the current version is damn good. They cut just enough wind, but breathe well when you are building up heat. Adding a light baselayer underneath them bumps the temperature range down a notch or two. I would not recommend them for skiing, have used them a lot ice and winter rock climbing, and I would disagree with folks here who say the fit is too tight. I have huge thighs for my size and I never feel constrained by them. I wish that Arc'Teryx would bring the pockets a bit up to date to accommodate modern smart phones, but love the new belt and closure system at the waist.

Very Comfortable, recommend

These pants are not light, yet not heavy. The fit is not slim but not baggy. The material is good quality, stretchy, and has retained its color. These pants are simple but perfect. If you dont like too tight or too loose these are a great option. If you want a tighter, slimmer fit then get the Sigma. Overall: A great, extremely comfortable pant for daily use or long days read more outside. Colors: Triton is very blue; Mongoose is a dusty color, not olive. The others are pretty basic.

Second Pair

I've had these in heavy rotation since 2012. Back squats and IPAs have since brought me up a size, but the fit and performance is still the same one these pants over the years. I think of these as the perfect so cal alpine pant for our 10-11k peaks along with eastern sierra access. The best cool weather hikers with mobility and durability for class 3/4 action. These have been with read more my on every major fall/spring 10k'+ summit that I've bagged over the years. Pricey, yes, but def a bang for the buck. Don't sleep!

Excellent pants for your adventures

These pants are a terrific blend of durability and light weight, yielding a fantastic all-around pant for your outdoor adventures. The fit is excellent for me, although some may find them a bit slim. The length is fantastic for my height (6'5", long legs), and the Large size fits my waist flawlessly (225lbs.). The material feel is extremely comfortable and sheds water well. read more The built-in belt is a great approach to an adjustable, but still low-profile waistband that works great with the belt on your backpack. Buy and enjoy - they're fantastic.

Tight in the thighs

Too tight in the thighs, and way too baggy in the waist.

Stitching came apart day 1

Fell apart after one use. Backcountry only offered store credit but ran out of my size for all arcteryx pants. Arcteryx corporate was not much better, they asked me to send the item back and I MAY get it back in 6 weeks which is after the winter hiking season. Not happy!

Great, versatile pants

Love these pants. In just the last 7 days I've worn them backpacking in mid 60 degrees sunny Canyonlands desert and snowshoeing in 30 degree heavy snow in Little Cottonwood. Light weight but sturdy material. DWR puts up a good fight - I've worn them in off and on drizzle all day in the Uintas and they kept me plenty dry. Kneeling in the snow to adjust snow shoes didn't result read more in wet knees. And when they do wet through, like where my jacket drips on to my pants or the thighs, they dry out within a few minutes after precipitation stops. Not a substitute for a true waterproof pant, to be sure, but good enough that I now leave my rain pants at home unless significant rain is in the forecast. Thin and provide no insulation, but they keep the wind at bay. Finally, the cut is great. Athletic and roomy enough for my dino quads without being baggy (I'm 6' 220 and the XL fits me great). As I already mentioned, I'll use these for everything from backpacking and hiking in cool to moderate temps, snowshoeing and backcountry skiing in good conditions, and everything in between.

A Classy/Rugged pant

Arcteryx I used these pants for a wide range of events. Classy restaurant birthday celebration for my son's 13th, rappelling down the ravine in my backyard, playing rough stuff with my Rottweiler, fishing from the canoe on Kootenay Lake BC, and even just watching tv. I will kick it up a notch this winter and take these pants powder skiing at Whitewater Mountain Resort in Nelson read more BC. You name it, Arcteryx goes EVERYWHERE i take her with no complaints.

Slim Athletic Hiking Pants

This brand makes quality products. Their sizing is tailored for more of a slim-athletic build which seems universal for all their clothing lines. These pants are no different. The legs are a straight slim fit with no tapering in the ankles. They do have a larger waist size. I'm 5'11" 150 lbs with a 30in waist. I purchased the small but the waist on the small is at least a 31-32in. read more They do have a built in buckle to help alleviate the larger size waist. The elastic belt is perfect. It's easy to hook and unhook even in the dark. It's easy to tighten and loosen as well. The ankles can be cinched while the length of the size Small is near a 31. The thin soft shell material feels nice against the skin. It is very water repellent. I dumped a glass of water to test the DWR and the water completely beaded off. In a heavy long downpour the water will definitely seep through, but a nice pair to wear in light rain. The material is also very wind resistant considering how light it feels. Great stretch too. The side pockets have zippers that aren't noisy, but the leg zipper can be a little noisy at times. The side pockets can fit my iPhone 6s no problem. If you are looking for a pair of slim hiking pants with a built in belt, then definitely give these a try.

Swishy Pants

Very good pants, fit is great even for a bigger guy. Slight stretch to the material. These are light pants, perfect for a spring hike or early fall outdoors activity. Would not wear if the temp is below 40 degrees. Personally wish I would have gotten the AR version, because these are so light weight. However, they are built with very good quality construction and materials. No read more back pocket. Only major con I can think of is that the pants make a fairly pronounced swishing sound when walking.

Good softshell pants to get the job done

Fit: These pants fit just as expected and very consistently with other arcteryx garments. I purchased an XL tall because I like a baggy fit. XL normal would work great if you have similar "dimensions" as me but don't like baggy clothes. Function: These pants do exactly what they should. They keep me warm and dry when I bike or disc golf in the fall. I would not recommend them read more for a downpour or moist snow. If you wear softshell in a downpour, you're gonna have a bad time. They are much heavier than I expected them to be. They are more like snowpants than expected. I hiked isle royale in them which is chillier, I would not recommend for a warmer climate. The look: These pants get the job done, there is nothing special about their look. I own 3 arcteryx jackets, a wind breaker, and 3 pairs of their pants; their jackets are so colorful and flashy but their pants are so boring. Add some color to the legs!!! The price: Worth it. They will last forever. If they don't, they have a lifetime warranty. Summary: If I think the environment will be harsh and likely to get me very wet I pull these out of the closet. If the chance of getting wet is lower I grab my norronas. They look better and have color! 4 stars because I need my colors!
