Arc'teryx Firebee AR Down Parka - Men's reviews and deals for sale

For frigid belays, backcountry touring trips, and all the other times you'll need no-nonsense warmth this winter, there's the Arc'teryx Firebee AR Down Parka. Its 850-fill down insulation offers high-loft warmth without adding excess bulk or added weight, giving you an easily wearable and packable option for all of your cold weather expeditions. A Gore Thermium outer shell delivers windproof, water-resistant, and highly-breathable protection from ever-changing high-alpine elements. The shell is also separated from the down by a ripstop liner, boosting your insulation power by keeping the down further away from freezing winds and heavy snow.

The insulated StormHood fits easily over a helmet to block the wind when you're belaying on frozen cliff-sides, and has glove and mitten compatible adjustment drawcords so you can cinch it easily without your fingers going numb. For quick access to essential gear you've got two external hand pockets with highly water resistant WaterTight zippers, as well as an internal chest and drop-in pocket for the items you need to keep protected but close at hand.

The best around, no compromise

I was hesitant on spending this much on a down jacket for winter belays and around town stuff. Just needed a warm coat for sub freezing days. My atom ar was my warmest layer. This picks up almost exactly where the atom ar isn’t warm enough. Meaning freezing temps. I can layer a proton lt and beta sv under it. It is snug just by design but it worked fine and was very warm. Though read more I’m not sure this was designed specifically for belay stops, but it works well. Ok where to start. I’ve tried rab (very good) and mountain hardwear (not good) top of the line winter belay style coats. Both had gore Tex style membranes and were wind proof. This is light years ahead of anyone else. The beauty of this coat is the construction INSIDE insane amount of quality and engineering. I mean you just gotta see it, it’s a thing if beauty, almost brings a tear to my eye. It is a PUFFY coat but doesn’t look that way. The shell is water proof and wind proof and the seems are taped making this an absolute winter bomb shelter. The best hood over ever seen on a coat. Box baffle construction is pointed inward to eliminate spare space and warm up faster. Some people say it runs small for this reason but it is very much true to size. It’s just different. You compress down just putting it on but believe me you have plenty of loft. It is actually incredible. It’s a warm hug, it’s that good. I’d say this could be warm easily down to -40 with a few layers all day. If you have ever seen -40 you will know that is pretty much time to leave. Elegant simple sleek. This should last a lifetime. It’s so light! Packs up small. Just a solid solid coat. The best coat haha. On a side note, I think women would like this a lot. It is super warm but still flattering despite its loft. The 24k black is awesome. I wanted down for this style coat as it doesn’t pack out like synthetics and would be in its stuff sack quite a bit. Order one and just check out how they did the inner baffles... just amazing.

Firebee vs Ceres SV

The Ceres has 240 grams vs 225 grams in the Firebee, for the weight of the down fill put into the jackets.

Firebee by Arcteryx

Just got back from 6 days in Iqaluit where I wore it for the all of the cold nights ( - 18 to -25 C ) and a couple of colder days. The Firebee was exceptional for keeping me warm and toasty. I wore my Arcteryx Macai on warmer days because the Firebee keeps is too hot to keep zipped up on warmer days( -8 or -15 C ). The front (main) zipper is a little difficult to start but read more after the start , all good. I loved the jacket and would definitely recommend it for cold weather wear but not downhill skiing because the body of the jacket is a little longer, being a parka style. The Firebee is also stylish and you can feel the quality in every part of the jacket. It is everything that Arcteryx says it will be.

Update

The love grows deeper and stronger. Just got done riding, touring, and traveling with this jacket to Revelstoke for 10 days. This jacket is incredibly warm and lite. It sheds moisture and is wind proof. It doesn’t leak any heat so it’s only really appropriate on frigid days. I twice wore it riding at the resort to test it and loved it.While touring I threw it on read more during change overs and breaks. It excels in this role. It immediately makes you feel toasty and comfortable. The hood is large and very warm. I have never had any coat match that effect. During changeover I threw it on over my stinger and was immediately happy. It does have one Con. The zipper is very very difficult to start on mine. It always jams at the start. Always. I’m not sure if it is only mine or if this is common. But other than the wonky zipper it is perfect.

Awesome

I buy too many jackets. This arrived today and it was perfect timing. Coldest Thanksgiving in 40 years...Well, on two dog walks I haven’t even been able to tell the temp outside (32•). It is 100% windproof and very warm. I am 6ft tall and 190. I got the large and it fits well. The arms are a bit long but the body is great. I think a skinnier dude could pull off read more a medium. As other reviewers mention it is quite puffy. It seems to loft itself up when you put it on. It’s kind of amazing. It is very very lite and very comfortable. The hand pockets will fit your hands even with bulky mittens on. There is an interesting drawstring that runs along the middle that pulls the jacket into your body. The lower drawstring does the same. No wind gets in at all. The hood is very generous. The blue is great. I’ll update this after I use it on the mountain.

Incredible down jacket

This jacket is everything that I wanted it to be: incredibly warm, lightweight, packable, and great looking. I'll start off with the sizing... I spent a lot of time looking for reviews on this jacket specifically to figure out what size I needed. I have fairly broad shoulders and a 34" waist, am 6' 1" (185cm) 195 pounds (88kg) and the large fits me perfectly. I was tempted read more to get a medium through looking at the Arcteryx specs as well as the 6' model wearing a medium in their youtube vid, but large was the perfect choice. Like another reviewer has said, this jacket is extremely lofty... one of the loftiest I've ever owned, but it packs down into a very small bag which is attached inside the inner zip pocket. It's amazing how small it gets, but when you unpack, it lofts back up in no time. The hood also has a ton of down in it, is extremely warm and comfortable, and easily fits a climbing helmet. I haven't yet worn this in heavy rain, so I can't completely speak for the water resistance, but water did bead off well in light rain. What's remarkable is how well this thing holds the air/loft in the down. It has segmented down pockets to prevent it from moving around. It has a certain level of air tightness, which results in the air being expelled more slowly than you'd expect when you squeeze it. This helps immensely in maintaining the loft volume and warmth of the jacket. I've worn this in double-digit subzero temperatures and was warm with just a t-shirt on underneath. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for the ultimate down jacket. I bought this in the vermillion color and am very happy with it... a unique burnt orange color that stands out, but not excessively.

Great Parka

For its volume, this Parka is very lightweight. I've only worn this in temperatures down to the single digits (F) and it has kept me very warm. I have had nothing but positive comments about this item from others including one individual that indicated that he'd buy one immediately. Arc'teryx makes great products - highly recommended.

Good but careful of the size

I really wanted to love this jacket. I already own a Ceres and Cerium SV and wanted something in between with better wet weather protection. I've never bought anything other than medium in arcteryx so was surprised that this is a wierd cut - very tight in my shoulders and a touch short in the arms. And I'm skinny with fairly broad shoulders. Cannot lift my binoculars up without read more it pulling on back of shoulders, which is a deal breaker in my line of work. Guess I'll try the Large but fear it will be too baggy in the torso.... (PS. Jacket is awesome otherwise) UPDATE _ Got the large. It's better, but this thing is so damn lofty i still can't move my arms. I mean, it makes the Ceres feel like a shell. There's like the down of million ducks in here. It's just too much. Obviously it's warm as hell (literally) but i think the mobility issue is going to be too much.
