August 24, 2020Worth it
Buy once cry once on this indispensable shell. Worth it. Used it several about to put thru wringer. Kept needing a new jacket ea season.. Leveled up to Arc Beta AR. Ordered size M (I’m a true 8-10). This jacket covered me on bicep room & long enough for torso. Roomy enough to move in, layer & toss over an Arc puffer. Could have ordered S if I desired a snugger shell, glad I didn’t.… read more The GORE-TEX stops wind/rain & lets me pack lighter. Ample pit zips dump heat. Figured out how to tuck the hood away so it doesn’t drive me bonkers when I don’t need it (jimmy rigged). If you want a hot weather shell/rain jkt, you’ll want to level down on the Arc range.

January 8, 2020Was Hoping for my New Fav
I had wanted to try Arc’teryx for a while and this was my first purchase. It’s well made but did not work out for me. The arm length was plenty long which is sometimes an issue for me as I usually wear a small. The size was ok but the cut is off being more snug in the chest than what I want for a shell. I am small chested too so that was unusual Color I was hoping would… read more be a deep rich green but it is more blue. The zippers are great and the pulls are easy to use. So for me I will stick to my Patagonia Pro shell. More features for the $$ and a better cut. Still a very nice piece if it fits you. :)

November 25, 2019Great Shell!
This is an amazing jacket that will keep you dry in any weather, great to layer with! Super stylish fit as well.

May 13, 2019I didn't get to wear it in the rain!
This I think is one of the cutest jackets from Arc'teryx. I know that is usually not why you pick out such a high-quality option but it doesn't hurt! This jacket fits me really well and moves with my body. The jacket does not come up when I lift my arms up. I'm 5'2 and 105 pounds and I typically wear an XS and I am an XS in this as well! It offers extra room in the upper arms so… read more you can wear insulation if needed and not get your sleeves pushed up your arm! I wish I could have worn this in gnarlier conditions but I just didn't get the chance! Being an Arc'teryx item with Goretex I know it has been tested in a bunch of different ways about 1000 times! When you want to be dry and stay dry, you should always look into Arc'teryx! Don't forget you can also retreat fabrics a few times each season to keep that waterproofing at its very best!

May 9, 2019Awesome shell
This shell has all the features you need to stay warm and dry whether you're in the city or on the mountain. In a storm it keeps all the water out, and has a very functional hood that stays tight on your head to keep you dry. When you're on the move, the pit zips are a great feature for ventilation. Feels super light and durable - all around awesome. I could comfortably wear a small… read more or medium, but went with medium because I like to fit layers under.

April 26, 2019Stay Dry and Look Good Doing It!
Grabbed this for a friend and this is what she said about it: I really like this jacket! I run hot and it is very breathable and comfortable. The pit zips are a great addition for spring skiing and the long front zippered pockets are nicely accessible even with bulky gloves on. The front zipper comes up high enough to cover most of my neck and even some of my face as well as my… read more collared insulated jacket underneath. Kept me dry in the rain and the snow, was breathable the whole time. Also, great color Arc'teryx!

April 8, 2019The Perfect All Around
I had been wanting this shell for a while and finally splurged and so glad I did. It is the perfect blend of protection to weight to style. It packs down pretty small so I can take it with me everywhere and it feels like next to nothing when I am wearing it but offers full protection from any weather and wind. I also chose this one because I like how the collar zips up independent… read more of the hood. I found for sizing in most Arc’teryx jackets I go with a medium even though I am small chested because it gives me more freedom of movement around the arms and shoulders and fits better in the hips and allows for better layering with insulation.

March 4, 2019Your New Secret Weapon...
This shell is incredible. Featuring high quality Gore Tex, with some versatile and well placed venting options, this shell is exactly what any outdoor adventurer should have in their quiver. I love the large venting zips under the arm for easy heat dumping or better yet, to create yourself a wind vest. Rain, sleet, wind, and insane snow, I really value what this piece has to offer.… read more All the way down to the design of the hood to keep it on and comfortable, I couldn't be happier! I Got a Medium (normally between size S and M) to be able to layer under and the fit is exactly what I had hoped for. Comfortable and layers over well without being to boxy and square. The sleeves were plenty long enough for my longer arms and the natural bend in the elbow allowed for comfort and unnoticeable (if any) resistance in the movement. Highly recommend if you are looking for the do it all piece. Snow shell, rain jacket, wind vest or pack it down in your bag for not too much lost space. LOVE IT!

February 20, 2019Great Shell
I've used this shell a handful of times on a trip to Costa Rica, and it lived up to expectations! It's completely waterproof but didn't feel like a tent, and if I got a little too hot the under arm vents came in to save the day! Or night, in the rain forest. I loved the fit and the material didn't make me feel sticky or uncomfortable at all.

February 7, 2019Forever Shell
This shell is so meticulously designed to be the perfect touring shell. It is pretty bare-bones, so if you are looking something with lots of pockets/features, this isn't it. The pit zips are amazing, and the overall fit is very comfortable and flattering. I am 5'11" and found the small to fit perfectly. I usually wear a small and struggle with sleeve lengths, but these sleeves… read more were perfect.

February 1, 2019How Perf!
I was able to barrow this jacket for 2 weeks and in that span, its rained 4 days. Throughout those 4 days, I got soaked...never. It was an extremely waterproof shell that had a nice fit!

January 21, 2019Amazing shell
This jacket is completely waterproof and has some awesome features. I wore it snowshoeing while it was snowing and loved having the pit zips to help ventilate and dump heat. The hood was plenty large if I had worn a helmet, but since I wasn't, it was nice to be able to sinch it back so I could see. The pockets zipped from top down to open it (opposite of a typical jacket) and that… read more probably will take some getting used to. It was a tad stiff in the collar area which is great to keep yourself warm and dry, but wasn't my favorite as it did make me feel a tad constricted. I was wearing my hooded Atom LT under it which may have just been too much fabric around my neck area. Overall, an amazing jacket that will not fail you. I got an xs but should have gotten a small to layer underneath. A small is my typical size but thought the xs fit fine when I initially tried it on. Once I layered up, I realized I should have gone with my regular size small.

December 28, 2018Well Designed Premium Shell
This premium technical shell is truly an activity specific design that has versatile use. The Gore-Tex Pro 3L fabric is nothing less than highly durable, waterproof and breathable (did you know that the "Gore-tex Pro 3L" is even more breathable than "Gore-tex 3-Layer fabric"--which is also very breathable-- by a claimed 35%) and the fabric thickness that's bonded to the GTX membrane,… read more 40 & 80D, is to be expected with the Pro 3L...doesn't feel heavy or thick, but it's still tough, durable and dependable. I've spent much time in extreme weather conditions in the mountains here in Utah and this jacket never fails. I prefer the "AR" (All Around) weight and features to the "SV" (sevier) to keep the jacket more versatile, and love the pit zips when I'm touring and active and need to dump heat fast. Clean, classic design is great to wear out on a snowy night after a great day on the mountain as well. For insulating layers in mid-winter,, besides a high quality baselayer and possibly a thin polartec fleece pullover (depending on conditions), I'll layer a thin synthetic insulated jacket under (such as the Arc'teryx Atom LT); or for the really frigid days I'll use a lightweight down insulating jacket. Fantastic all-around protective shell--highly recommend.

December 4, 2018Go Everywhere. Do Everything.
The Beta AR jacket from Arc'teryx is the ultimate shell for just about any activity under the sun. It's durable, waterproof, breathable, and has plenty of venting if you need to dump some heat throughout the day. The pockets are harness compatible, and the genius DropHood design means you won't need to unzip the neck of your jacket to throw the hood over your helmet when chilly… read more winds pick up. I've taken this jacket skiing, climbing, and hiking for 6 years now and it's still in near-perfect shape. This thing is tried and true. I took this to Joe's Valley during a desert rain storm and was completely dry. I went with a L to ensure the mobility.

July 31, 2018Bait and Switch
Over the past 12 years ive owned and used to death at least 5 Beta AR shells and just last week returned to update my ski collection during the Arcteryx sale. My shell arrived and i was greatly disappointed. A new customer would not know that the new version of the Beta AR is much lighter, less durable and bombproof. The coat runs short and its i length would make it duifficult… read more to wear a pack with a waist belt or cover insulation underneath. To obtain the same quality of older versions of the Beta AR, i had to upgrade to the Alpha SV which is about $70 more. Stella

March 30, 2018Great technical piece
I used this jacket for a Backcountry ski yurt trip that turned out to be very rainy. It kept me dry and warm the whole time. I also really appreciate the zip open pits to stay aired out on the uphills. Large enough to fit a thinner puffy under but not oversized.

February 5, 2018Bomber shell for bae
I bought this jacket as a Christmas gift for my gf and this is what she had to say about it: "I have been using this jacket both resort skiing and backcountry skiing for about a month and I love it! It performs better than any jacket I have had before. I love the under arm zippers because they allow me to stay cool on the uphills, and all zippers seal tightly so that I stay dry… read more when it's really wet out. The wind does not cut through at all, and I am warm and comfortable on even the wettest days, without feeling clammy inside the coat. I love the plum color and the length is good because it keeps the snow out from below. The hood is a good shape, and fits over my helmet. I would recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a versatile ski shell that's able to keep up with changing conditions, activities, and terrain. "

February 2, 2018Best Jacket to own
I bought this as a gift for my step-mom and she has put it through the wringer! She loved in when she visited Iceland especially as shown in the picture! She raves about this jacket. It's sturdy enough to put up with her bushwhacking and occasional mountain bike rides in the rain, and it is great for snowshoeing or skiing in the winter thanks to the pit zips to vent heat. This is… read more more than a rain jacket, and it's what you'll find yourself reaching for constantly before heading out on your daily adventures. It can take a beating and keep you dry. Gotta love the Gore-Tex! It seems thin when you first get it. but that's the best part because it shaves some of the weight without sacrificing durability. The AR for all-round in this jacket's name means just that! It's excellent. Her only complaint is that she wishes the torso and sleeves were maybe an inch longer, but it gets the job done.

December 25, 2017Arc'teryx Beta AR (All Around)
I love this jacket! I went to Italy and Switzerland and it poured rain every day. I stayed perfectly dry and comfortable. I can fit a hoodie and a puffy under it. The hood adjusts so that is isn't covering my face. The sleeves are long like most Arc'teryx jackets, they are supposed to be long. It isn't fitted, the jacket has space for layers. All in all, I really like it. No complaints.
