Arc'teryx Atom AR Hooded Insulated Jacket - Men's reviews and deals for sale

A down jacket may seem like a good call when it's cold and you're getting gear ready at the trailhead, but you're going to be a hot, sweaty mess by the time you're on the trail and your heart rate is up. The Arc'teryx Atom AR Hooded Insulated Jacket insulates when you're getting gear lined out for the day's objective and remains breathable during the approach, so you aren't stuck with a soggy, useless down jacket before the sun is even up. The Atom is insulated with Arc'teryx's Coreloft insulation, which consists of highly crimped and siliconized polyester yarns that are breathable, packable, and water-resistant to retain insulating capabilities when confronted with light precipitation. If it does start to rain or snow, then the Atom can be worn comfortably as midlayer under a shell for an added dose of warmth.

Good jacket

I wore this today in 45 degree weather. It was warm and fit like most Arc’Teryx jackets fit ie great. The adjustable lightly insulated hood fits nicely around your face. The side pockets are deep and warm enough (but not overly so). The insulation I would say is about equal to Arc’Teryx Proton or Arc’Teryx Proton FL. Definitely more insulation than the Atom LT. Nice read more jacket for shoulder seasons. Not a cold weather coat without some heavy base layers.

Go-To Jacket

Let me start by saying that I have many jackets. This is my new go-to jacket. It used to be my Outdoor Research Cathode but my dog chewed that one up... This jacket is plenty warm above 20-25 degrees with a t-shirt under. The face fabric is much more resilient than my nano-air or the LT version of this jacket. Warmer than my nano puffs. The build of this jacket is superb and high read more quality. I am interested to see how the jacket holds up to normal wear. I am 6' 3" 245lbs and the XXL fits PERFECT. Best fitting garment I own.

Not a winter jacket

I am looking for an everyday jacket to wear in Syracuse that could also be used for steelhead fishing, dog walks in the snow, watch watch my kids hockey games, etc, This is a lighter weight jaclet that would be good for fall and early spring, but is not going to cut it for the. Older temps. I'm 6'0", weigh 205 and this was too small. Other jackets I have by these guys in L fit read more fine

The 'Perfect' jacket

This is my first jacket from Arc'teryx. Excellent build quality, fits perfectly & right amount of warmth. Holds up very nicely with just a shirt till 30s. even in windy conditions. All this without looking bulky !! :-) You might want to layer it with a flannel for sub 30s ( if you don't like bulky layering like me ). For the quality, the price is absolutely worth it. Looking forward read more to have more from Arc'teryx collection.

One of the best jackets you could own.

I’ve owned this for almost 5 years and it has never let me down. While it isn't built for rain,(I believe it is repellent rather than waterproof), it has kept me dry in many showers I was caught in. Plus it is great on cold windy days and snowy ones too. The construction is great from top to bottom, and doesn’t cut corners at the hood like some other jackets. You could wear read more it without a layer to around 40 Fahrenheit. Under 30 you’ll want to switch to a heavier coat, though depending on your layering you could still use it. I wouldn’t recommend it for the teens or near to, or subzero winds. Bottom line- This is a fantastic coat you can count on for years. At 5 years old, it looks good, keeps you warm, and has a nice style that isn’t dated. Highly recommended for casual or moderate activity in the cold. I don’t ski or hike, but it would probably serve you well in those activities given its construction and mobility. I bought mine in Orange and like the color. Hasn’t faded.

Lovely Jacket

After much pressure from my peers particularly a lovely lady in my life, it became time to join the Arc'teryx family. After collecting many cans, converting our power usage to solar and cutting our cable, I was able to acquire this amazing jacket. #Wortheverypenny In all seriousness this jacket has been my go to for walking to work every day. It has been quite warm but somehow read more breathes as well. I used it as my mid layer for skiing, but quickly removed it as I overheated. It does repel rain adequately, Maybe not all day, but for jaunts in town it has done the job. Overall very happy with the purchase. Hoping its not too hot for 50-60 degree days. Could maybe be bit longer as it sits right at the belt line.

So Close

5-11, 180, longish torso, size M Really wanted to love it like the LT, however it just didn't have that perfect fit. Too short (hits right at the belt line) and a bit too boxy (the LT is far more form fitting and flattering). Felt warm enough and had a nice quality too it. Had to return based on fit.

best all around jacket I own

This jacket can be worn when it's 20 and it can be worn when it's 65. The combination of the shell and ventilation makes it the most diverse jacket I own...and I own a lot. It is SO light, that it can easily be worn under a jean jacket if your doing your outdoor garage (or lumberjack) work. If you come in from the outdoors, and want to continue wearing this indoors (where read more it's a little cool) it's perfect. (e.g. hockey games). Also very comfortable driving in it. . It is also insanely packable. (I have worn this jacket all winter...but only as an urban warrior, and not using it as a lumberjack or snow boarder I wear a medium in EVERY other coat I own...in this one, I'm a large. The zippers are not high quality.

Quality Jacket

I bought this jacket hoping for something warm to wear on my morning walk with my dog in the harsh Michigan winters. Jacket totally fit the bill. I am 5'9" 195-200 so I'm borderline Large or XL in most jackets. The XL fit was just right for me. With this jacket- just enough room to feel comfy. I really loved the jacket- but ordered the red.. The pic on the internet led me to think read more it was more of a brick/dark red... upon receipt the jacket is very bright red. Sounds picky... but I just din't care for the color. Other than that.. excellent jacket, very warm, comfy, looked and felt like it would hold up to wind and rain/ wet snow.

Super Warm and Light! Odd Sizing

I will admit that I intend to use this jacket for urban purposes 80% of the time. My Large weighs in at 480g and is impressively warm. I love the cuffs they create and attractive smooth and comfortable seal around the wrist, very clever design. I wish they had applied the same concept to the bottom as the hem bunches awkwardly with the slightest pull on the cinch cords. The hood read more functions nicely with a cinch cord that functions well. As another review I read mentioned, it does seem odd that the jacket will unzip easily if you pull the sides apart when partially unzipped. Perhaps this is intentional, I would welcome a comment if someone knows why it does this. My biggest criticism is the sizing. I should fit easily into a medium which was the first size I ordered, but the forearms were way too tight, I could not comfortably wear anything but a t-shirt or fitted base layer under it. Also the back did not seem quit wide enough for me to cross by arms without feeling it pull. I ordered the large and its arms and back are perfect but of course the waist and midsection is considerably looser than I would like. On the bright side I can now comfortably fit a fleece layer under it. I just find it odd given that I am fairly modestly built and that it is a regular fit, that the forearms and back would be so restricted. To sum it up, I love the jacked but if you intend to wear this jacket with regular street clothes around town, or as an outer layer with a fleece, I would recommend ordering a size up.

My Bestest Jacket!

I can't say enough good things about this jacket. It's light enough to be a heavy mid-layer but can stand on it's own in the cold if needed. I happen to be the friend mentioned below who looks forward to the cold so I can put this baby on. It's great! Do yourself a favor and get one. A small worked great for me

My Best Jacket

This coat is my go to coat and i love it. I've worn it several times in very cold conditions without any layers on top and have still been warm. If you're looking for a daily coat or a warm midlayer, this is a great option. While it's expensive, it's worth the money. Make sure to check out the size chart when you are ordering the coat. The arms on Arc'teryx jackets are typically read more a little long. My medium fits me great! A friend recently purchased this coat due to my suggestion and said that he looks forward to cold days so that he can wear this coat.

Best synthetic in my gear closet

I picked this up for a trip to Patagonia, where down might have been a disaster given all the rain, and was not disappointed. Positives: 1. The fit is great. Fortunately Arc'Teryx hasn't succumbed to the recent trend of sizing for the more rotund. It's large enough to fit over a light fleece layer, light enough to fit under my rain shell, and retains a nice athletic fit. 2. read more The materials and finishing are top notch. 3. It performed flawlessly given my expectations for a synthetic insulation layer in these conditions. What's not to like? The price. But I guess you get what you pay for...
